Should there be separate facilities for people on the Autism Spectrum who end up being convicted and doing time? It seems to me they would be vulnerable to being abused in general population.

have heard of these to.

A lot of people [the jailed ones, not staff] in prisons are supposed to be undiagnosed with various ND conditions or have retardation.

I just watched a show that spoke of a person who, at 15, killed someone, and hid it for 21 years. At 36, they tried to try her as an ADULT. The defense said that she committed the crime as a juvenile The prosecution said WELL, it is murder, so she can be tried as an adult. The defense said that wasn't the case when the crime was committed! So they moved it to JUVINILE court!

In Juvenile court, the judge was aghast, asked if it was a joke, etc... There was a request for an extension, and they decided to remand her to counsel, because they had no place in juvenile detention for an adult!

It is RIDICULOUS how the law works. If I were somehow placed in jail, I think I would fight for being diagnosed and ask to be placed away with books, etc... That would give me a comfort similar to what I have. I DON'T like that for people justly accused, but I deserve no less comfort than anyone else, and that means different treatment.

Alex, prisons are full of criminals. That's like trying to keep the ocean from being wet.

Newsflash - if you did something stupid you do your time. Jail is meant to be uncomfortable - think about it before you go all stupid.

I agree with TheZach, but I would still fight for my books at least. That way, I would co-operate more during my stay. The freedom bit wouldn't get me as much as lack of intellectual stimulation.

That's true but you are sent to jail/prison as punishment. You are not sent there for punishment.

One prison here in England has started the policy of refering to the prisoners by their first name or as Mr ... Wrong, wrong, wrong.

No. He's in jail for terrorism. He was not charged with vandalism.
