Does anyone else think of burgers when they say aspergers?

in fact, whenever i say it, i think of an expletive first, which also happens to be a body part, then i think of a burger.

Needless to say, i try to avoid saying that word as much as possible.

Well. I hope i didn't ruin the word for you.

My French accent prevent me from thinking of bugers (P is not B), but I think of a vaccum cleaner because it is called "Aspirateur/aspi" here.

In France, it seems that most people says "Asperjèr" though they should pronounce it differently (/ˈasˌpɜrgər/), which is why I can't really think of burgers actually, it doesn't rhyme here.

I've been wondering about this actually. Anybody a native speaker of, or fluent in, (Austrian-?)German, who can tell us how the man's name was actually pronounced, or an educated guess? Shouldn't it be uh-SHPEH-geh or something? (Sorry, I don't do International Phonetics, just Associated Press Broadcast Wire Service!)

On a lighter note, I recently saw a crate of asparagus while shopping, that included the French for it, asperges. Close! (Even closer to a Latin word from an old Catholic hymn, for "sprinkle" [as in, with holy water]. Think they ever used asparagus spears in that ritual?! ! Maybe in France?! ! Just kidding....)

OMG!! Of course!! In answer to my most persistent questions of self-knowledge: this must be why I love asparagus and why I am so drawn to Catholic churches! :lmao:

That's awesome.

(Oh yeah, and I say it with a "soft" G... precisely for that reason.)

The first time I heard that word I thought the person saying it said assburgers. I thought she was being mean to me.

There are a lot of creative (and humorous) user names at WP which suggests a lot of those with autism - Asperger can word play.

With Asperger, I tended to view it as As perger primarily because I might be able to remember how to possibly both spell it and pronounce it that way.
