I am not sure what category this would fit in, so I will put in in general discussion. I work technically as an independent contractor not as an employee which means I am responsible for my own tax decuctions and payments. I managed to pay my 2007 federal tax obligations off early for this year.

When you earn a paycheck and you have handled your finances to pay your share of taxes and contribute towards society does it make you "feel like a man" "feel like an adult" because you have "fulfilled your obligations towards society just like everyone else?"

No. I actually pay someone else to do my taxes because otherwise I would do them too late and/or incorrectly. I'm just not good with financial stuff, so I work around it. If I were to dwell on it, it would probably make me feel pathetic. But I don't dwell on it.

No

First off, in the U.S., I have no say where my tax money is spent, so I see too much of it being wasted.

Second, money doesn't mean as much to me as it seems to for other people.
I have never measured myself by the amount of money I have or could earn.

I currently 'owe' the IRS almost $6,000 because my divorce wasn't finalized soon enough and my accountant hadn't set me up to pay quarterlies last year.

This year I have been paying quarterlies and my divorce was finalized Sept. 01, so I hope my situation is better next April! 8O

omfg i can tell you the worst tax story that happend to me, it all went down back in 2004, i get a certified letter from the irs. the letter was intimidating to say the least, it was all big and must have weighed 5 pounds, anyways i have always done my taxes myself and have used the EZ form. well they were all for the years 2002 you have been doing your taxes wrong, aparently i made a math error wich made me get a refund. and now two years later they wanted all my base. i am serious! they said they would take everything i owned exept canned food and my childrens schoolbooks. (i dont have any kids) but still, i origionally owed them $800 and now they said i had to pay them $1500, because two yars went by. i cant tell you how depressed and sucidal i was. it was terrible, eventually i paid them off but it took me a year and a half :(

now i dont do my taxes anymore and take them to the block son, H&R block

I work hard and generate a paycheck and I contribute towards society by paying taxes, and even tho I let my dad do my tax, I still feel like an adult, a man because I contributed thousands of $$$$ towards the government, which will help build schools, roads, pay for defence but will also alot of my money go to rich naitions like Japan for aid, Israel, towards wars I dont support and in the pockets of others who dont deserve it.

I am not sure Japan gets foreign aid from us. They have the same standard of living just like us. I know we give foreign aid to Israel.
