UrbanDictionary.com can be a useful resource for old fogeys to get up to speed on the latest 'hip lingo' the youngsters are using. Unfortunately, I just noticed what the consensus' definition of Asperger's is:

Heh :lol: I don't know anyone who gets their truth from urbandictionary.com . I think if the definition itself was accurate, I would call Aspergers suspect. However, seeing as urban dictionary usually has parody definitions of real phenomenon, I would say this is right on target. Its core audience is definitely not research students or professors, thats for sure. Though, I guess I'll vote down those blasphemies, seeing as I have nothing better to do. All in all, I'd really prefer if urbandictionary.com would find a nice pasture and die.

I didn't claim it was "truth"; just (apparently) popular perception. We have a golden opportunity to influence that, if only by force of numbers. Not saying those myths won't still exist; they just won't be the first definition folks see when they swing by.

appart from that being some of the most insulting BS iv ever seen (no personality? iv got more personality in my left ass cheek than most NT's hae in there entire conciouse) exactly wat makes them think that AS was made up by emo's? personaly iv never met one emo with AS and i dont think thered be that many out there anyway

The definitions under just "aspergers" are a lot more apt in their descriptions.

Given that there is a lot of anonymity on the net, yes. I'll bet you any money that if you look up stuff like "cerebral palsy" or "spastic", they'll use the words "ret*d" and "mong" a lot and with impunity. Why? Just because they can, just because they want to hate, they want to see the world burn, or someone cry.

Ya, I dont think the people who edit that site are the most intelligent bunch out their. Like stated I bet they rip apart plenty of other groups out their, I bet their insults towards us really are not half as bad as the gays or muslims.

If I ever have to do resherch, urban dictionary is the last place I would look for acurate info.

Thing is, editors there don't have much power. All they can do is vote on definitions and report bad ones. Even then, it's not much.
