Can't relate. I love new carpet smell. Also, new clothing and new car smell.

Most other smells offend me.

Shoe stores like the large chain types with all the smelly overseas-made shoes, tire stores, some of those dollar stores, etc.

it's all the off-gassing done by the cheap goods they sell.

I can't understand why people work in those places. Of course it's because they need a job.. but I'd find another job before I worked in one of them... I don't think I could work in those places anyway... I can't stand going in them. :skull:

If you have air cleaners or someone you can borrow them from do so...

To speed up the off gassing effect a bit...turn up your heat while your away...when you come back make sure to air out the house for a bit afterwards, opening windows and turning on ceiling fans. I've tried this method...it does seem to make the odor leave quicker.

...and if you ever have the option to buy the carpet and store it away in a garage or outbuilding for a few months to off gas before putting it down...it helps.

I have problems with this sort of stuff...the fumes can make me pretty sick and miserable. I feel for you. :(

I too like the new carpet smell, even if it is formaldehyde. :)

I don't mind the smell of new carpet but I hate the smell of the glue and I think it really stinks :(

The smell of very new things is one of my favourite smells. Like for example soles of newly bought shoes.

My cats love the smell of new carpet. It affects them like catnip. We got a carpet last year and all of the cats loved it. They rolled on it, sniffed it, and played and jumped on it.

Wouldn't want to swap it with the old carpet back at where am used to live, the aspie who lives there has ground much s**t,wee and sick into it over the years and it really looks and smells it [she never made to clean it properly].
