I get really jumpy. sometimes when people touch me or poke me, even lightly, I jerk/jump. Its almost like Kramers reaction when he is surprised or something. My friends find it funny therefore to poke me and watch my reaction. Is this normal? Sometimes I even jump just from other things, like my cell phone rings and I practically fall out of my chair beceaus I wasn't expecting it. I didn't used to do it but have done more so over the past couple years. Sometimes I have it real bad sometimes not.

I have an extreme startle reflex , i dont know why , if people come through the door way and end up infront of me suddenly i jump out of my skin , once many years ago a freind of mine who should have known better made me jump from behind by trying to put her hands over my eyes ..... I had to buy a pack of tissues for her nose .... she never did it again.

I also have an extreme startle reflex. It became a constant joke when I was in undergrad, because my roommates would always end up startling me even when they didn't mean to. I think it's gotten a little better lately, but it still happens on occassion. Somebody walks up behind me or says something when I'm not expecting it, and I'll jump a mile.

I jump out of the way if a ball comes flying twenty feet away from me.

I also have a startle reflex - especially with loud noise next to me. So of course once someone figured that out it became funny for them to keep clapping loudly and watching me flinch uncontrollably. Ha-ha.

I also had a neighbor say Hi very loudly when I didn't know they were there - I completely whirled around and freaked them out. They apologized profusely but I felt like an idiot.

That sort of happens to me to, if I don't see the person coming. It's not that violent, but it's noticeable. I've gotten to where I'm often looking around and checking people's proximity when I'm around them, so I won't startle if they touch me.

I don't have much reflex, it runs side by side with my extreme pain tolerance in some ways.

When I do react its on instinct, as I don't like being touched but its not a reflex so to say.
Only when I absolutely NEED to react instantly will I and these are rare occasions.
My roommate is astounded I haven't got run over yet, I'll keep casually walking as the cars about a few inches away from hitting me but she'll be darted across the street a mile before it came anywhere near us.

Though when it comes to something triggering I'll react violently, I was on the bus once not long ago and there was a really loud screech on the bug. It felt like it was penetrating me, I reacted so violently I almost smashed my head into the pole near me.

Other than that people and things that do this are annoying more than anything, I'll so happen to react by spitting in their eye socket, or walking away wishing I did so.

Yep that is me down to a T. I jump when my mobile rings. Can't have an alarm clock that sounds. Jump people tap me on the shoulder. I once punched this guy that was trying to straiten my collar. I'm not really sure what was going on, it was just an impulse.

My coworkers think it's fun to sneak up behind me because of how I overreact, especially if I've got my noise canceling ear buds in. I'm a bit worried that one day, I'll automatically react and hit someone. On the plus side, at least I've gotten them to stop poking me in my side. I really hated that.

That reminds me... Many years ago, I was standing around and got startled by a guy coming up behind me. I jumped and turned around. This resulted in my arms sort of swinging out at waist level... He never snuck up on me again.

I definitely have extreme startle reflexes, which my brother took advantage of when we were kids by always jumping out at me to make me scream. I jump a mile at the slightest unexpected sound, and I screamed while watching "First Contact" at the movie theater when the Borg implant erupted onto Picard's face. So totally embarrassing!

My ex husband used to follow me up the stairs and grab me from behind. He used to also hide around corners and jump out at me to scare me. Pissed me off so much.

Why do people think it's fun to do stuff like this? And the more you try to tell them that you hate it, the more they do it. I get the same crap with people trying to tickle me. I tell them it actually is physically painful to me but because I can't help laughing at the same time I'm screaming at them to stop, they don't take me seriously.

I only react badly to touch. My best friend loves tickling people and she does it to almost everyone... and while in class, the teachers never notice she's tickled someone unless if it's me...

Im the same, the lads at college think its great to pop thier crisp packets at lunch time just to see me jump, as for touch if someone pokes me or even touches me lightly I jump, But when it comes to extreme pain, Im very tolerant, for example when i broke my leg, it took 5 days to realise it was broken, because I showed only slight sign of pain, when it was quite a bad break.
I also jump at my mobile going off, or even vibrating.
