I’ve just started going to an individualized autism day program in Chicago (I live in the Suburbs). It’s great so far but I’m having a hard time with the change. I want to move to one of their group homes eventually. Any advice on dealing with the changes?

What sort of changes are occurring at this point?

I’m starting swimming at a new pool today that’s very far from my house. I’m starting at a speech (communication) group after that.

I can understand you being accustomed to the old swimming pool. I used to swim laps when I was younger; and I liked the pool in one place better than in the other place.

Do you like the new swimming pool?

I hope everything goes well with the speech-communication group.

The only thing I can think of at the moment is to give it time.

It looks nice but I haven’t used it yet.

I guess that’s all I can do for now. How do you deal with changes?

Well in 2014 I moved from Las Vegas where I lived almost my whole life to the Seattle area. So a totally different and new environment and different kind of school structurally. I like this area a lot and I like the school. But I still had anxiety over the over the major change. And I remember I was real grumpy too for some reason even though I was also happy. But eventually it settled in and I became comfortable. But it is still kind of foreign to me.
