I've often wondered whether people with the same behavioral characteristics might or might be diagnosed with AS depending on the country from which they hail. For instance, I think that there could be someone who would be diagnosed as an aspie in the US but who might not be diagnosed in countries like Japan where the culture is more oriented toward introversion and less emphasis is placed on eye contact or Finland where people are generally quiet with strangers and small talk is frowned upon. Has anyone else considered this? Also, does anyone have any links pertinent to this subject? Share your thoughts.

I definitely know that in Chinese and some Latin cultures, being socially "weird" is considered even worse than in the West. For example, there is a Chinese term, "lesser ret*d", which means a person who is socially inept. "Greater ret*d" refers to a person who is mentally handicapped. This is also true in different American cultures, for example, a person who is socially inept would stick out more in working class culture. However, in Chinese, Latin and U.S. working class culture, kids are less likely to be diagnosed because it's considered embarrassing to be "special ed" especially for the families, so they just get shunted away or sent to mill around on the streets as bums.

The more comformity and social structure, the less tolerance for different.

In non conformist roles, or high in the social structure, the more differance is accepted.

Money cures a lot of things.

Before IT, none of those people would have been allowed in the building.

Avoiding eye contact, not speaking, speaking only when spoken to, in a flat mono tone, were seen as good in social structure, they knew their place.

The different who spoke were shipped to the colonies, hence a lot of AS in the US and OZ.

While they were poor working class, it was seen as normal. When they reached middle class, it stands out, the idea that even a quarter of people might get a degree is very new. Most are still common labor, now without jobs.

The cultural rise from transported to middle class lead to the discovery of AS, there was a reason they were not like everyone else, they were different. It was seen, but as the poor they were transported, now with wealth, and no where to send them, it becomes treatable.

AS basicly means, not insane, but different. It has a wide range. Having a name does not alter treatment by the majority much. The term "Social ret*d." has been around a long time. Now it is called AS.

Even in the rich lands, the method is still cure, change them, make them be like everyone else. Just because it does not work, does not stop them from trying. They are the perfection of creation, everyone should be just like them.

I get flamed on WP for saying, I embrace AS, it has made me what I am, and I am trying to develop it.

Here I have been told I need tharapy and drugs. That I will have to fight it everyday for the rest of my misrible life. So much for the support site. The rest of the world is much worse.

I do not want to fail where I could never win, I want to win from where I am.

I hold patents, write books, publish others, and still get told how misrible my life must be?

That is from most, but the other business owners do not see it that way. They are employers in a world where almost all are workers, and not very good at it. I get along fine with the top, it is just being judged by working class failures that is the problem.

I think they see us as dominate people who do not dominate, and it makes them feel better about their sick and discusting selves to take a cheap shot. They are bad when tolerated. But faced with being told what they know, they are weak, worthless, and about to become permanently changed, they change, and no more problem.

They are conditioned to obey money and power, slaves, and in the choice between pick my cotton or get whipped, they are good cotton pickers.

It is cultural, social, and the only cure that works.

All bosses are Aspie.

Who flames you for saying that?
