I think I finaly found out what has been causing my anxiety and headaches as a child and now. "An overly bright and busy world."

I couldn't quite understand why I would get headaches a lot now and as a child. Some times food would trigger it (especialy surger) or stress from that day that I couldn't understand why. Even though I don't have a stress full life now I still get them.

What I mean by overly bright and busy is that it feels like every thing is extreamly sharp, colorful, bright and always jumping out at me. It's like I cant really focous on an entire scene around me, I can only focus on little things.

I realized all this when I was at the dentist and they gave me those sunglasses so the light wouldn't shine in my eyes. (allready I'm scared s**tless because I don't like docters of anykind so I'm under a lot of stress) But when I put those on I felt better. I didn't feel that scared. And I have been wondering why until I realized that the world didn't seem so busy any more because everything was in shades of grey. Everything wasn't sharp, bright and jumping at me. And that's when it struck me that ,maybe, this entire time I had headaches since I could remember, was because of my envirenment visualy.

So now everytime I feel scared or stressed out I put on some sunglasses and I feel much more relaxed.

Is it the same for all of you?

YES

I like sunglasses even on cloudy days and hats and walking around the house with the lights off.

I also take small bites out of jelly beans not because I am dainty but because the taste is too much.

You might want to look at the book Too Bright, Too Loud on amazon.com.

Bright Colors: Love Em!

Bright Light: 1) AhhhChooo! 2) AhhhChooo! (reapeat several more times) 3) Close one eye 4) Desperatley wish for my sunglasses. If it's sunlight it doesn't even have to be bright to trigger 1 2 3 and sometimes 4.

It's more the busy for me than the bright, but bright can be a problem, too. Bright and busy is a nightmare for me. And shades used to help, but I am now having to wear glasses all the time, get headaches if I'm not wearing them, and can't afford prescription shades.

Have you tried contact lenses? One nice thing about them is you can where any sunglasses you want with them and still be able to see. I pretty much had to get them when I started driving because of bright sunlight and also driving at night, glasses don't help astigmatism enough for me to drive comfortably at night (for those that don't know astigmatism distorts light and makes it fuzzy and huge and really annoying.)

Yeah I wear contacts. I'm happy I do because I can wear sunglasses. But I havn't found a pair that fits me just right and I look funny in them.( I am near sighted. )But if they made dark tinted contacts I would love them.

(I just saw a jeep all lite up with colorfull chrismas lights and a big lighted up heart on the back spare weel!!)

If I had those dark tinted contacts I wouldn't have enjoyed that. But i'm not going to wear my sunglasses all that time. I do enjoy looking at the christmas lights around my naighborhood though. I think at night I can enjoy lights. One of my most fondest memories when I was younger was when I went down town right after it rained and all the street lights and buildings looked so sparkly and pretty. I remembered The Alamo especialy...hee hee! :D

Because of my prescription--bifocals--contacts would be a horrendous expense.
Thank you, though, for the suggestion. :D

My glasses are bifocals, I've had bifocals since the first grade. My dad has contacts with a bifocal (just in one eye becuase it would drive your brain nuts if it were in two) and loves them, they prolly are expensive though. Using reading glasses when you need them along with contacts is basically like bifocals. I generally need the magnification for when my eyes are tired or I have to read a lot and my eyes start to skip around. Anyway it has worked for me. Hope you find something that works for you!

I find that wearing hoodies is helpful. It's kind of like the blinders on a horse--you only see what's in front of you; ie. your field of vision is narrowed. Then there are less things to distract you.

I think what you describe is common for Aspies. Because our focus is so intense, when there are lots of things to focus on, it takes away more energy. :?

I’m not to keen on bright colors, I prefer dark and subtle such as almost any natural hue. The only bright color I like is red as long as it’s combined with black, some sort of darker gray and a bit of white.

And yes, I prefer wearing sunglasses whenever I'm outside. At home, I've managed to paint to two rooms I spend the most time in dark colors and the blinds throughout the house are always closed.
