I just have a few quick questions why is autism connected to aspergers?

I have met people with autism and they are nothing at all like me and tbh I believe that disorder couldn't be farther away from asperger's and should not be connected with each other and so I am wondering why this site is dealing with both?

I have many different problems then autistic, I am very smart, went to college, had friends, family, and can do everything that a normal person can do except I feel very socially awkward while doing it an have symptoms of asperger's.

Autistic people are very very different IMO even mild autistism is much different then aspergers an I just dont understand why the connection on here and other places.

Thanks for reading and any answers would be kind :)

Well birds, have wings, so do bats, and flying fish, So Medical Science groups them as things with wings.

Them Doctors are real smart and make a lot of money.

You can't make money telling people they are mildly quirky.

Aspergers is connected with a higher IQ, self directed learning, and there are schools that teach, people can't just go learn on their own, only what the government approves for the schools to teach.

Some people are just not team players, and do what they want, and you know that ain't right!

People got to believe like us do, act like us do, or they be somekinda ret*d.

Crazy done got to narrow, but them smart Doctors said them smart people are tards.

Smart people are a threat to the world. There must be something wrong with them. Superman started out fighting the evil Doctor Tesla, for real, as did J Edjar Hoover.

Normal people should run everything because there are more of them.

Jesus said so.

Good timing....

I used to ask myself the same question.

TODAY, I learn't the difference when my younger son was diagnosed as high functioning autism.

H.F.A. and Aspergers could be identical except for a single defining characteristic.

While the Aspie has problems communicating, they can carry a conversation by age 4. HFA cannot.

That's it.

Now, there's another part of autism, the lower end of the spectrum. They don't seem to call it Low Functioning Autism but that's what it is. These people have a lot of problems functioning at all.

It seems that if there's a big split, then it's more likely between HFA and LFA than between Aspergers and HFA.

ProtossX,

I know what you mean. HECK, I always thought that, mentally/socially, I could be described as gifted, and shy, with skewed senses.

Well, when I read Autistic symptoms one day, I realized I matched a LOT of them, except my IQ was high. I was also well behaved, etc...

I noticed that they had HFA, and it was a closer match, and I was intrigued. AS is an even CLOSER match. For talking, the average person takes about TWICE as long as I did. Frankly, I like the old DSM description of AS. The new DSM description is ok. I don't know WHY gilberg came up with HIS garbage.

And I have come to realize that many symptoms, that I didn't think I have, are ones I really DO have.

SO, if you throw out the idea of a low IQ, and look at the milder symptoms, you may start seeing your life even in the LFA description.

It does seem odd to group them together when you compare the behavior of, say, an obnoxiously loud, chatty aspie vs. that of a non-verbal autistic, but I think a deeper examination will prove that they are related. Although it might be hard for some aspies to pinpoint, we all have this certain "distance" from the world (but also a connection to it? kind of hard to explain) due to this slight detachment of some sort... I have often read posts on this forum describing how "everything has an extra step" for aspies. I feel slightly detached from the world, but probably only 1-5% of the detachment that a true autistic person feels. That little hint of detachment, though, causes some marked deviations in brain functioning and behavior from your average "normal" person.

Well i think the main reason their linked is because people with aspergers have autism traits ie... sensory issues, social issues, motor skills problems, no eye contact, etc... The main difference is language delay and intellegence.
