Entirely out of curiosity. I read somewhere that there are more gay people on the spectrum then there are for allistic people, so I thought I would put it to the test on this site.

I realize there are many catagories of non-straight genders including bisexual, so for this poll, if you are not straight I hope you don't mind me grouping you into straight or not straight?

Also, as many of you have not been assessed yet or can't afford to be assessed, but consider it far more likely that you are on the spectrum then not being on the spectrum, then answer as if you are on the spectrum and vice versa for those of you who have not been assessed and consider yourselves allistic (Not on the autism spectrum). I want to make this as simple as possible as to not complicate things.

This is entirely out of interest to see if it is true that there are more who are in the "Non straight" catagory who are on thw spectrum compared to those of you who are not on the spectrum, as I did hear that the ratio is higher for those on the spectrum?

(Do not vote if you do not want to. Is just out of curiosity).

Ooh. I put this in the general autism section as I realize that many of you do not look at the sections of this site that don't apply to you, so this part of the site most of you will look at.

I have allowed you to change your voting so if you make a mistake it can easily be corrected.

Thank you for looking and taking part.

I voted “not straight,” I’d class myself as “N/A” since I’m asexual, but that counts as “not straight,” I suppose.

Mostly straight...? Autistic.

I mean I'd not want a full relationship with another woman and am quite happy in my relationship with my boyfriend...but well cannot say I have never been turned on by women.

I am married to a woman and have a child, so from the outside I'm straight, but the truth of it is that I'm bi. Actually, so is my wife. We're both the type that is more about personality than genitalia. Our hetero relationship is only hetero because the person each of us is attracted to is of the opposite gender. If she had been a man with a similar personality, or I had been a woman with similar personality, our relationship would not be hetero and neither of us (depending on which was which) would have any problem with that. What I've always said is, "I love a person for who they are. If there's love, the details can be worked out later." I think most people believe this, but not everyone considers gender/sex a "detail."
My wife is probably closer to the usual definition of bisexual. For me I think it's more about being very strongly demi. If I love a person, I don't care what they're packing in their batbelt.

Interesting poll Mountain Goat! For reference I'd say I'm bisexual but not gay and I'm fine with being described as "not straight" because I'm not straight :P
Also, what you are asking about is sexuality not gender.

I'm similar to this actually except I'm married to a straight bloke.

Thanks all for taking part.. Just to say that you do not have to state your gender etc if you want to just vote and not reveal who you are etc., and this is just out of curiosity. So far no NT's have voted. Does that make them statistically 50/50? :D Seriously though, I did not expect the mix on the autistic side to be so close between the two groups.

Question. Could this just be on this site and other autism sites maybe different because like attracts like and so maybe more tollerent to different sexual preferences then other sites are? Or could it be that this site is more open to talk about such matters and other autism sites are resteicted from talking about anything sexual? I add this out of interest just to see if such a difference may cause different results? I wonder if other autism sites would reflect similar results and if other general sites would also give noticeably different results? (Iam not brave enough to try it! :D ).

Most autistic people, as well as non-autistic people, are heterosexual, I have found.

That doesn’t mean “not being straight” is wrong. It’s just biology.

There might be a higher percentage of autistic folks who are on the “asexuality spectrum,” or who consider themselves neither male nor female (non-binary).

This. I don't see how autism would have more chance of making one gay.
