Film noir. I absolutely LOVE the aesthetics - the camera angles, lighting, the use of shadow, even the clothes (especially the women - love the femme fatale look!). But nine times out of ten I find the plots extremely boring. I have an opposite feeling toward the fantasy genre however - I quite enjoy novels and video games, as I like stories that play out in a world with different rules than ours. But I really dislike most fantasy-themed artwork.
Huh. I guess that's why I like Haruki Murakami and David Lynch stuff so much. They both kinda play with neo-noir and fantasy at the same time. Never realized that until now
