There are specific types of *music* that will drive me insane if I let them - and they are - in no particular order

opera
funky funk music from the 70's
house and trance
rap
anything generated from a phone
saxophone
anything trying to be *cute* like dogs or little kids singing

What music makes you go bonkers?

My least favorite type of music is oldies. I hate how it's all my brother and dad will listen to. I also dislike heavy metal.

Working in a shop where they play the same 20 Christmas songs, on loop, from 1st October till mid-January, and you're there 8 hours a day.

That's how you make people suicidal. Or angry. Or both.

I heard one of those songs a few days ago (worked in the shop a few years ago) and almost went into meltdown, it was like post-traumatic stress!! 8O

Holiday music.

I can understand why you would dislike Opera. It can be quite annoying to me only because the vocalist is giving yet another superficial performance with thick, pointless vibrato, apparently only to show off their "skills." I find this mostly in sopranos and mezzo-sopranos (the harsh vibrato and over the top vocal depth is more annoying as you go up the voice register). Students will do this the most because teachers are telling them to do certain things and it's not really their musical or artistic choice.

Sincere interpretations are an entirely other affair, however.

"Synaesthesia" sung by The Bobs (that's a link to a WMA file)

Oddly enough, because it gives me a slippery sensation on my skin that I find distinctly uncomfortable. (Not joking, and disturbingly related to the topic of the song.) Which is why it would drive me insane, not because of the sound itself or the lyrics. I can't even click on the link to test it out, I don't want to deal with that feeling again.

Then anything with a certain beat (which is most likely to crop up in techno and rap) makes any voluntary movement really hard for some reason, I'll end up wandering in circles or falling over if I don't grab onto something (and if I'm standing, so I guess I am glad I don't stand much anymore really, eliminates that problem).

I don't like heavy metal at all, I won a CD once and I couldn't stand listening to it. Listened to probably 4 or 5 minutes of the random songs on there before trashing it. Screaming is annoying to me.

I don't like all opera, some bits here and there I like (eg. The Magic Flute, Der Holler Rache), and though some of the songs can have a real sense of style, it can be annoying when they hit the highest notes as loud as they can with as much vibrato as humanly possible. Couldn't stand the diva from "Phantom of the Opera!"

Oh, I don't like listening to my sister's flute. She's really good at it, but the sound of the instrument itself drives me crazy at times.

At times I just can't listen to any music because my mind can't focus or spew out a rational thought, particlarly rock, even though generally I love it. Actually, too much noise and naturally I'll start getting a bit irritated.

"Smooth jazz" makes me jumpy and irritable in any setting. I can tolerate most other types of music for differing lengths of time.
