i cant seem to do anything without some kind of structor. i so desperatly want to live in a prison enviroment because its so structored, but i dont want to commit a crime, do you think a correction facility would let me live there if i paid rent? does this idea sound crazy? do you function better with some structored days or what. i do :D

Hmmm... my entire life is routine, order and structure. I was even told at work by a desert storm vet after working with me that I shoulda joined the army because I probably woulda done awsome.

I dont think you need someone imposing their structure on ya (like prison or the millitary) but if that is what makes ya compfortable in life then I think us ASD'ers will naturally do it. Afterall I have done it as long as I can remember, like when very little, predicatability is everything, if nothing or very little changes, or the changes are minor, life makes sence and when the routine or order breaks down their is absolute chaos and a real chance ill flip the hell out.

Heh

Is it really structure you are looking for, or is it to be relieved of stuff like cooking, shopping, having a job and handling finances? Because you could probably set up a pretty structured existence outside of the army or prison. I like structure-- without it I feel like the world is going to fall to pieces, not literally, but it won't be good. So I'm really good at the routine that helps me through the days and helps me meet the basic human needs-- grocery shopping on Sunday morning (with a list); my iCal reminds me to pay bills on the 24th of each month; I take a shower every morning at 7:30, etc. etc. Other things help me maintain the routine-- like pets that have to be fed regularly and who like routines of their own.

I don't think I would like jail, but I do more or less like the 9 to 5 job, the regular housework, knowing that I don't have to worry about paying bills on any day other than the 24th of the month. I eat the same breakfast every morning and wouldn't mind eating the same dinner if I bothered to eat dinner at all. But I don't feel regimented or lacking in freedom, which would definitely happen in jail or the army.

Routine is good to have, but is not absolutely necessary. For me it makes life less stressful and easier to manage. But luckily I have the freedom to put it aside. I think the most important part of routine is the structure to fall back on when things are busy and chaotic.

both. i wasnt made for it, and i dont have a job. ive tryed being a productive citizen and cant do it. i was made to live by the same rules everyday. i would be willing to pay for a cell, and freedom is overrated as f**k. aslong as i could have a beer and go to the sportscard shop everyonce inawile i'd be fine! yah heard it here first, so dont steal my idea

I like structured days but it's me who creates routine; I HATE it when another person tries to do it. Every time I had to spend some days in another place than my home (occasions like summer camp, hospital or so called "green school" trip) I used to feel terrible because my routine was interrupted and I couldn't do all those things which were so normal and usual for me (playing computer games, reading books or watching TV).

In sociology, we call prisons "total institutions." A person's life is "totally" controlled.

However, prisons are only one category of total institution. Others are military boot camps, some monasteries and convents, psychiatric hospitals, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinics.

At least for me, if it was a choice between prison, on the one hand, and a monastery or military boot camp, on the other, it wouldn't take me long to come to a decision. ;-)

I don't really consciously plan my daily activities, I just develop very strong routines that I do on "autopilot." Also, when I do a job I want it to be structured in the sense that I want a set goal and the resources for getting to that goal put up clearly and explicity, but I really don't like to be given step by step orders unless I ask for them. I have what some on-line personality sites call a "chart-the-course" temperment.

I live a fairly structured life or atleast I try to. I plan things out well in advance every day. I know exactly what i'll be doing 2 hours, 4 hours, 10 hours from now...

now until about 6pm i'll be online, listening to sublime, and chilling around the house.

6pm-till about 7pm i'll be out with my mom at menards or home depot.

7pm-9pm i'll be trying to sleep.

9pm-10:30pm i'll be stressing about work and getting ready for work.

10:30- I leave for work.

7:30am I get picked up from work.

8am-12pm or so i'll be sleeping.

repeat.

Structure and routine. OK.

1) Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday I go to the gym and do exactly the same workout. The only thing that's changed is the resistance settings on the equipment.

2) Every Thursday night I go to the ham radio club.

3) Every Friday night after my girlfriend finishes work it's off to the grocery store to buy the shopping for the week. I buy the same stuff every week with only minor variations such as a different type of bread roll or sausage.

4) Every Saturday night it's sausages and bread rolls for the evening meal. Every Sunday night it's a joint and roasted potatoes.

Nope, no structure or routine in there

there are no group homes for aspergers here. so when my lease is up i'll be on my own. im going to contact some prison outfits and see if they will accomodate me. i can live in the wilderness again but i have ocd as f**k and need to be clean or else i will go f*****g crazy. living with my mom or other family members is not a f*****g option

You don't think that traveling to another location to be in a group home would be preferable to being in prison?
