Bush wants your input to help Aspies

OK, not really, no important politician cares about Autism, in case you haven't noticed, unless it is group of Autism Speaks parents ready to vote against them.

But what if Bush asked you what you would like done to help you and those with Autism.

What three things, realistically, would you want the Federal and State Governments to do to best assist you and other Autistics if asked?

I would suggest the following:

1) Educate the public, starting with Teachers. Require it not to be defined not as a mental problem, but a difference in children to be treated like lefthandness verus righthandedness.

2) Provide a job training and placement program. This way an Aspie with an IQ of 145, gifted in recorded keeping are record keeping, and are not mopping floors because they cannot create a meaningful relationship with people in the office. Help us with proper job placement with understandable employers that want gifted and ontime people that don't gossip and date the secretary.

3) Create a government help line. One that we can do online or over the phone to help us with what to do in social situations, how to deal with mail, and when we get frustrated with daily life actitives.

What is your three suggestions?

It would be nice if they had someone designated as like an Asperger speaker who could generate a movement like Martin luther king did for african american's

we need someone who can stand up for people with AT/AS and like in society to make it more mainstream and awareness instead of what it is today

Also there should be a national holiday preferably for people with autism or something so people can atleast think about it one day of the year an it creates hype an awareness around the issue cause people will know atleast

Im sure it would put aspies minds at ease knowing this country was ready to come together on a day for people with autism an stuff an maybe have a parade or something an speeches about it?

And is there any 2008 canidants who are the most in help autistic peoples? I'd assume it be a democrat heh

I know my biggest qualm is getting the proper information to educaters. Secondly, for the government to classify AS as a physical disability rather than mental, which means I can actually afford my medications. And as you said, proper job placement. I want nothing more than to work and have a life independent of my mom. Then I can afford to buy a small house and have a girlfriend.

You know, to move up in life a little.

My first request would be to stop all the negative BS about autism that's been spewing out from the television media and reverse it all into positive, accurate information!

Maybe having a regular series on the discovery channel, since people seem to accept whatever is on that channel unquestioningly. It could be like The Dog Whisperer, except instead of one person portraying us, only those who will present us in a positive light are allowed to control what's aired.

The next most vital thing should be that the government keeps their nose out of any organizations like austismspeaks.org!

I am not so sure that the Democrats are any more understanding of AS than Republicans. Dems do support higher taxes and more social programs. But you liberals tend to be very intolerant of people that are not socially and politically correct in their language. Aspies have a difficult time not saying things that appear offensive and insenstive at times. I have given up commenting on places like the Democratic Underground that like to kick me out and flame me for stating my opinions. I was Delegate in my state for Gore in 2000, and Kucinich in 2004. So I am no hard core Republican. But I think Democrats soundly dislike me because of my inablity to meet their high social appropiate standards of interaction with others.

Hillary wants to cure Autism and is teamed with Autism Speaks to try and do so. She has sponsored legislation to do so.

I think hillary clinton has some plan, I know little about it, but she is also the one with the healthcare reform that sounds plausible IMO.

Thanks woodsman. I appreciate you comments. I think Hillary is more good than bad, and means well. I just think we can do much better and she would not even be on radar if it were not for husband. And I am offended by a lot of language of some NTs regarding AS.

When I see John Edwards, I still cannot help but be reminded of how he patted a person in a wheel chair on the head. Ouch! That is got to be an insult, hey. And this guy worked for the disabled getting them money as an ambulance chaser.

I know what I would suggest he do.

Resign, get his entire administration to resign, and then put in place a new administration and president who actually care about the world.

Ron Paul would do just fine for the meantime, any other suggestions more than welcome. None of the Hilary/Obama stuff... the only reason they're "the leading two" is because the media say so and give them so much coverage. And well know who owns the media.

There's a high probability that I'll vote for Ron this election.

I think I'm probably on enough governmental lists as it is (Did you know that for decades, anyone who stopped in front of the Soviet embassy in Washington was photographed, and a government file was created for them? I'm sure mine got pitched in a week or two, but does play with your head...

A working, non-stingy National Health Care system. That'd help everybody, including auties. We could get dxed easier (note I said a "non-stingy" NHS, meaning they wouldn't try to find every reason under the sun for not referring you somewhere).

And to put more money into education systems. Once again, that'd help everyone.

Oh, and remove that damned No Child Left Behind crap. Does the complete opposite of what it's supposed to.

(And ask for his entire Administration's resignation. That'd help the WORLD.)

Misinformation is required in order to stamp out pesky "special interest groups."

I'm sure the bigwigs see us as a problem, both a drain on the economy as well as being partially immune to their BS and free-thinking who could very well be the instigators in a full revolt against the government!

I did not know that, I used to follow politics more in the past, but have since decided their choices that only benifit them make me so sick I cant stand to do it anymore. They have no regard for the common man, only work to help themselfs, and if anything their legislation somtimes hurts us (like senior citizens supposedly getting reduced price for their meds, gimmy a break) SICK!

Information, public awareness campaigns and just the friggen world to know AS exists, there is nothing wrong with AS, AS is different but better for humanity and for the love of God, job placement services that let you strive on talent while not requiring you to do company social mixers. Really, and I say this repeatedly, NO ONE knows AS exists unless they have been touched by it personally. Really, I continually read here to learn ways to make sure I am being the best person I can for my AS bf, but really, if the world would STOP being rude, it would be better for us all. I find nothing here but smart funny people, and wonder why I have to come to a website for this. Why not the real world???
