There is no DSM-IV-TR category called "schizophrenia not otherwise specified" (NOS). However, there is one called "Psychotic Disorder NOS."

Was once given label of "schizoaffective" disorder, which I assume is same thing, just written differently. Could it be (what OP is trying to recall) "schizotypal" something or other ? I don't even know what that would mean, if anything, but have heard of the word/phrase-maybe that's a personality disorder-but isn't that called "schizoid" personality ? I'm just guessing, thinking out loud here. Sorry, going around in circles with all these gradations of words...

Is it schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type?

Or else psychotic disorder NOS.

Those are my guesses.

Yeah, there's no such thing actually as schizoid affective disorder.

There's schizoid personality disorder, and schizotypal personality disorder. Which are both basically pathologized personality types, the first being solitary and unemotional, the second being solitary and eccentric.

Then there's schizoaffective disorder, which is in a totally different category.

Those are ICD-10 codes. There is no schizophrenia NOS in the DSM-IV-TR. Maybe the OP was diagnosed under the ICD?

That sounds alot like what she said. yeah, though I myself don't think I am. I think I am more sensitive to sound rather than hearing things =_= but watever. I wanted a name to look up to see wtf she is sclaiming i have cause this will go in my ssi files.

Could it be a "comorbid" situation if so?

Not necessarily 'comorbid', just how psychiatry chops people up, and sometimes through misunderstanding at that. Schizoaffective disorder bipolar type is what happened when I was already diagnosed with schizophrenia (so that someone who'd claimed I wasn't schizophrenic could justify Clozaril to insurance), and then taking Wellbutrin made me manic. Instead of taking me off Wellbutrin, they changed me to schizoaffective and put me on Lithium. Which I call, really weird practice of psychiatry indeed.

I think you are talking about schizoaffective disorder bipolar type. I have been diagnosed with the same exact thing and I don't agree with it. So, what are your symptoms? If you tell me I might be able to help. I have a DSM-IV and ain't afraid to use it. Do you hear things that don't exist (hallucinations) or believe things that no one else believes (delusions)? Does your speech ever get disorganized? Ever have catatonia? Any negative symptoms? Just remember I know all!

You are very funny. I have trouble talking in session, even with my gf present, so i descided for next month im just gonna type some stuff up and take the laptop with me. I dont agree with my diagnosis, not really. I know what and who I am, and its liberating. I can rock back and forth for ours and not feel guilty and instead be comforted.

All silliness aside, if your SSI is pending upon your Dx, ask your doctor and/or clinician. Medical records exist and are accessible to you - don't guess!

Tempy,
it's difficult to go through again, but would being rediagnosed [to either confirm or deny whatever the other lady said] help?
Also, there is a common comorbid on the autism spectrum called hyperacusis- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperacusis it's usually not seen as being a seperate condition/seperated from classic/kanners or aspergers ,have a look at the article and see if it's familiar.
It would be worth going to a specialised audiologist [not sure what title they would use-one who understands ASD,APD....] regular audiologists are useless for this kind of problem as they assume the only kind of hearing problem is when it's lacking, not the opposite.
