I've heard rumors that ASDs are sometimes caused by old dads.

My dad was already 53 when I was born and he's now 68. (Yes, that means I'm 15)

I've been quite curious about this topic ever since I heard about it; any thoughts?

My dad was 42 when I was born me and is 68 also.

On balance he is very aspie like. He dedicated a lot of his life to the 'service', which involved traveling and only had one other girlfriend that I'd heard about. So t was not surprising that he got married late. Though they did wait a number of years before having my sister.

My dad was 31 with me, and 39 with my (NT) sister.

But I did read somewhere that older mothers (first child only) carries a higher risk for Down's Syndrome.

Aaaahhh, I just remembered! My real question was about fertility drugs, due to the family which recently had autistic triplet sons after taking extreme amounts of fertility drugs.

My parents used 3 (I think) fertility drugs over about 1.5 years, that might be why...

My exh was 32 when our son was born. However, schizophrenia runs in the family on the paternal side. I always thought that was the risk factor in my son's case.

happens with older women too... though it's harder for the egg to survive at all...

women are born with all the eggs they'll ever dispense in their life... while men continually produce sperm.

so the deal is, it's bad for older mom's to have babies because eggs dont have that great of a shelf life...

the issue with men is actually the production of sperm... the older the guy, the more errors there are likely to be in sperm that are being produced..
