Where do you guys learn about autism and AS? Who are the experts on this condition? I guess Dr. Asperger would probably be one of them. Who understands AS the best in terms of physical and genetic causes?

Doctor Asperger doesnt do much thinking on the matter anymore.

Tony Attwood, Simon Baron-Cohen are first and foremost. I enjoy Juanita P. Lovetts writing, and you cannot go wrong reading anything by Famous Autist/Aspie Temple Grandin. Start with her.

I think Tony Attwood might be high on the list

I don't like the word expert though
ex = 'has been'
spurt = 'drip under pressure'

Uta Frith has written quite a lot as well as Lorna Wing. There's another researcher called Christopher Gillberg who is very undeserving of his recognition on the other hand, though much of that has turned into notoriety today.

Actually, "ex" in Latin means "from."
Apparently "expert" comes from the Latin "experire", which means "to try, to test."

am think that many people on the spectrum are experts more than some of the ones who have got certificates,it would be good if there was some way these people could be given jobs to assess and diagnose people who might be on the spectrum,as there is a big shortage of autism and asperger specialists in the UK at least.

I would hesitate in saying there's really any all-rounder experts. There's many "experts" but they are divided into their respective fields. Some are more experienced in working with auties; but then there are those who don't really know the human side of ASC but know the neuroanatomy/chemistry or genetics very well.

It depends on what field you mean by "expert". Many of the names though already mentioned tend to be more familiar with the human side of ASC because they've worked with so many of us, although at the same time Drs. Frith and Baron-Cohen are also heavily involved in cognitive research as well.

Luke Jackson is definately good at what he does too - must be 19 now I think...
Very knowledgable guy, and certainly knows a lot about aspergers.

Two questions-

1.) Which book is mostly designed to talk about FEMALE aspies?

2.) Is AlexBeetle the same as Alex our WP administrator?
