hell if you happen to make the wrong mistake or be wrong too much, too often, about the wrong things or about too many things, even if you tried your very very best?

I do a lot, and it's a nightmare. :(

I don't know, to me, it sounds like you are already there, spiritually that is. The good news is you can contact the diabolical entities abusing the Christian system (the modified version of our father for instance our daughter who art in hell) The best place to do it is in a full church during mass.

I used to be strongly religious, but now I'm agnostic.

The whole idea that there's an omnipotent, omniscient creator who cares about you very much but who will send you to be tortured forever if you make a mistake just doesn't seem reasonable.

I think religion is part of the normative social influence. If there is some almighty creator who spends any time at all focusing on the importance of our actions, I assume that it would be at least as compassionate as I. And I would not want to torture.

Agreed.

I was raised very religiously by my parents, and I've never been able to shake the feeling that I'm going to hell because of minor sins, even though I tried my best. I've been convinced of this since I was seven. It's not a very pleasant feeling at all.

All have sinned and fall short of the golry of God (Rom 3: 23)
but there is hope and here is the verse in context

Romans 3:21-26 (* not vs 24)
21But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.
22This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference,
23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
*24and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement,[i] through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—
26he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

If you look to the Bible you will find your answers if that is the context in which you are refering to it. even the people hand picked by Jesus screwed up and let Him down, but He was full af grace, mercy and forgiveness. No one but Jesus was perfect in the Bible, GOd uses imperfect people to do amazing things.
if you already feel like you are amazingly spiritual then you are probably deluding yourself as it is a constant struggle to live a righteous life. it is reffered to as a race by the apostle Paul.
As long as you repent of your sins and believe in Jesus, you're basically covered.

I dont believe in hell. As long as you try your best and dont screw over other people doing it it doesnt matter if you failed or not. Its the wanting to be a good person that counts.

What is there to be worried about? Doesn't God turn his cheek when abused? Doesn't He teach forgiveness? Doesn't He teach love? Doesn't He judge your heart? Doesn't He know the number of hairs on your head? Isn't He all powerful and all knowing? I thought He only turned his back on those that turn their back on Him. Surely you have nothing to fear.

You are saved, right? You believe that God, needing a blood sacrifice to calm His jealous wrath, sent His perfectly innocent son to die for all the wicked. He let an innocent take the blame(Like all those poor animals before Him). Punish the children for the sins of the father and all that. You believe that Jesus died for your silly little mistakes(sins) so that His wrathful father would spare you from hell, right?

Sounds like you're giving in to doubt, to the sower of confusion, to the deceiver, the Prince of the Power of the Air, to Lucifer, the Dragon, Satan.

Tell Satan to sit on a tack. :P

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

Sort of....

I don't believe in hell, per say. though...
I'm embedded with concepts of the old testiment God, thereby instilling a 'fear in god'-in a manner of speaking.

But, as he is portrayed, he isn't 'my concept' of him. Neither is our portrayal of his hell, my concept of his hell. though....
It is, in a manner of speaking, rather, it is as possible as anything.

Which is where the answer from my perspective is:

I operate under the assumption that there very well may be an accountability at the end that effects the record keeping of the spirit and its progress. I would not like to spend the eternity with those who ail me.

In answer,
The judgement is coming from an 'entity' of contridiction. Who's to say?
A command not to murder, yet a confession of army leading.

'All is fair in love and war'-is not a phrase from the book.

No, I don't feel this. I'm more inclined to the Buddhist view. The word karma is Sanskrit for "action". In Buddhism, karma takes on an additional dimension: it expands to include a person's intent and motivation in action.

From Wikipedia, "Karma in Buddhism":

Quote:
If a person professes piety and virtue but nonetheless acts with greed, anger or hatred (veiled behind an outward display of well-meaning intent) then the fruit of those actions will bear testimony to the fundamental intention that lay behind them and will be a cause for future unhappiness.

Naturally, there's a lot more to it than that :) - one must still try to see the world without illusion, and each of us is still responsible for his or her own consciously-committed acts.

God is not creating a perfect universe by sending nearly everyone to hell for eternity. As far as I'm concerned if there is a perfect being behind everything they'd give everyone chances to learn from and rectify their mistakes and improve themselves over several lifetimes.

If God isn't like that he's not perfect and can go **** himself.

I used to be religious but, religions always seemed to go out of its way to portray me as a demon incarnate so I just started to live as a spiritual being. In my spiritual world I am focused on helping those who ask for my assistance and judging no one. I have too many problems of my own to take one moment of my valuable time sitting in judgment of others. To me religion focuses entirely too much on judging others. I want to focus on helping others and in so doing learning what I must do to better myself on my spiritual path.

I don't believe in hell. Nor in "God" per se. What little devotion I give these days is given to the Lady. She is a loving but stern mother, among Her many aspects, but consigning someone to hell... no. I try to follow the three fold way, kindness done returns three times, evil done also returns three times. Other than that, hanging mistletoe in our entryway and having hearthfires on the proper days, that's about all the religion I have time for. My father was an ordained minister and I had that crammed into my head from birth until I escaped the house to college. I escaped from even pretending to believe in hell at the same time. I haven't regretted it.
