Even if I know it won't help my child, I can't help but wonder if he has Asperger's because something I did, ate, etc.,while I was pregnant with him. And one thing in particular that has always made me wonder, is if the length of the labor process could have had something to do with it. My water broke at 5am, but I didn't have any contractions, so I was induced with pitosin but still nothing, I wouldn't dilate. I finally had my child at 8pm at night. And I have always wondered if all that time, without amniotic fluid could have had affected him neurologically. I want to know if any members in this community have gone through something like this or have heard about any relationship.
I was also given lots of hormones during the pregnancy because I had the tendency to loose them very early in the process.
Thanks!

I know I was the result of a 27 hour labour... "Pain in the neck then and you never stopped!" my mother would wink at me (jokingly!!).

In my case, everyone was surprised by how quick it was, especially given that I was a firstborn.

Braindeath occurs in like 5 minutes, and MOST people with cerebral palsy DON'T have AS. You wouldn't think that a long labor has such a connection. BTW I don't think mine was long, though I WAS a large baby.

GOOD POINT! There are a LOT of cesarian babies now! Yet autism went UP supposedly.

My labors were really short with no drugs but this post reminds me of when my daughter was diagnosed. I wondered about things did that could have been related to her autism. Whenever I asked a doctor, I'd get the same response. "It's not your fault. Don't feel guilty. Stop torturing yourself." But I WASN'T asking because of guilt, just curiousity and answers.

Now I know that my genes and husbands were involved but, how in the heck can we find out anything if the medical professionals shut down the parents whenever the parents have questions or wonder about things?

Labor was quick and easy even though he was my first child. No complications during pregnancy. Yet, I can always think of a bunch of things that I might have done wrong.

AS has been proven to be genetic, aside from not getting pregnant, there isn't anything you could have done to prevent him/her from having it.

There are some correlations with hard labors and kids on the spectrum. It is one thing that they do look at. I had a stressful pregnancy and my son's birth was very stressful. I know lots of other kids on the spectrum who had difficult births. I think that there's a little bit to it at least as far as the sensory issues go.

Baby no 1 = 18 hours
Baby no 2 = Cesarean

Both are aspie, but baby no 2 is dx with HFA.

My son was induced, I was apparently in labor already but didn't feel it. AFter 6 hours of not much happening the OB broke my water. The pain was astronomical and my blood pressure shot up. (that's why I was induced because of PIH) I had the epidural and when the pain went away the contractions slowed down and it was harder to participate. Pop got stuck in the birth canal and his heart either slowed or stopped.

An opportunity to share my horrible labor story wheee! here goes:

I had my water broken to induce labor when I was a week overdue.
Had to be at hospital at 9:00 am, then sat around until 11:00 when they finally did it.
Had my blood pressure and heartbeat checked every couple hours until 8:00 pm, when the night shift came on duty.
No one checked me ALL NIGHT.
I could not sleep because I had labor pains all night, though not enough to get anywhere.
Doctor did rounds next morning and said "Are you still here?"
At noon of that day, I got hooked up to oxytocin to strengthen contractions.
Had my baby a little past 4:00 pm.

So...31 hours, due to hospital negligence.
