It might be the caffeine. Caffeine stimulates some people and soothes others.

Did it make you tired straight away, or did you feel bouncy for a while first?

Me, too.

I'll usually get extremely hyper for about 10-20 minutes (not productive hyper, more like talk a mile a minute and have no idea what I'm saying hyper) and then I just pass out.

Your hyperactive in the first place, this does not mean in the physical sense, but in the mind, the mental.
we require a different set of uppers.
I discovered this long ago.
you have to experiment to find the right energy drink,
and mix to match if you have too, even using vitamins.
sorry, thats life for us aspies., its all mix and match.

I have never had any energy drinks before, but as their main ingredient is caffeine I suspect they'd relax me. I have ADHD, and some of the ADHD/ADD chemical imbalances can be corrected partially by a stimulant(like caffeine). I generally take my medecine, so all caffeine does to me when I have my meds is calm me down a bit, or nothing at all. If I haven't taken my medecine that day, it works like my medecine. If I haven't taken my medecine for a few days(which invariably means I am miserable because I cannot control myself or concentrate on anything for more than five secons) caffeine puts me to sleep. That would be because when I do not have my medecine, it takes me ages to get to sleep and I sleep very badly, and as soon as I am relaxed enough to sleep, I automatically fall asleep because I am so sleep deprived. That's what happens to me, at least

Energy drinks make my heart race. I tried Red Bull once and was a jittery ball of nerves. It sucked.

I was like that beforeI quit my meds. Now all caffeine dpes is help my focus and keep my slightly more aware of my surroundings. Well, only caffeine found in natural tea at least. If it's in any other form, it has no effect at all. That, or I'll be insanely hyper for a good 10-20 minutes. But that's usually from sugar and not caffeine. But falling asleep, nah!
