How to expect things of others 101

1. Notice their full potential. (as in, "He could go back to school if he wanted.")

2. Don't expect it within a time limit. (as in, "Within 2 years he should be back in school.")

3. Don't expect particular things ("He should go back to school.")

I do very very well when nothing is excpected of me. But if it's expected I couldn't do it to save my life.

I couldn't agree more. Family that do not understand have called it laziness, it has nothing to do with being lazy.

I agree. One example is doing well in school.

You know why, Ana? Because when people lay expectations on you, a part of you wants to tell them to get lost and stop interfering. When you have control over matters, then you can do almost anything. And at YOUR pace, and YOUR discretion. It's called control. Based on that quote you need it to thrive - and rightly so.

You can not dawdle along and do your own thing and ignore what is require of you by life. You need to fit in with others.
If you were working for an employer and he gets x result from his workers and you give him x/2 then you are not doing what is required for your job. You can b***h and moan that this is unfair but he needs that level of production or service to keep in business. He has employed you to provide that level of competency for your pay.

That is life. Any other reasoning unfortunately is a cop out and if you hang onto belief that the world needs to fit in with and mold itself around you then you need to get over it and strive harder to embrace reality

I'm staying in high school for an extra year, and I feel sad that I can't go to Prom with my friends (I would have probably be at the corner covering my ears for half, then when my ears adjust I'll dance away. I for some reason don't like being touched but love dancing :P) because I'm staying an extra year. I want to wear a pretty dress and pretend to be normal, even if it's only for one night!
I can't make myself graduate for grade twelve and I've accepted everything else about staying an extra year, but its frustrating that I have to lose my PROM because of it!
I think you can only do what you can. If you're fired because of it, then that job wasn't right for you. I know that I'm fearful about work because I need extra time to do stuff, and I don't want to disappoint my future boss.

I am very self-motivated, yet I did best when people had high expectations of me.

My only real problem with exceptions is that people expect me to be busier in college then I am or work in a normal way. My mom was spazing out because I don't spend hours quietly reading my computer books, thinking I was slacking off and was going to fail my classes. Finals week came and guess what I didn't just pass I had a 98% on the CCNA (basics of computer networking) final while the rest of the class barely had 80s.
I had the same problem in school too, and i imagine people have trouble with it at work, if you can do the same work as your coworkers but don't look as busy the boss will think your slacking off even if your not.

I have nearly gone crazy for school. I have a 88% in History and a 94% in Math (For some odd reason I didn't get my English mark on my report card...weird), but I have had too many panic attacks (Not panic attack like I feel like I'm going to die, but the kind where you shake and hyperventalate and can't stop thinking about what a failure I am sort) this year because of the pressure I've put on myself to be happy about the marks. I had a forty minute break down in the middle of my summative because there was one part different about the probelm (And my teacher told me there wasn't anything different) then the practice question, and it completely messed me up!

"If you don't live up to to other's expectations, that's their mistake, not your failure."

of course they do...it's called work.

And so I do...thank heavens they pay me for it..;)

people at work always expect me to know where the files are when they lose them. i mostly find them cos they are where they are meant to be or sandwiched under a bigger file or something like that. (this is not in the job description)
it can be a pain when u are expected to know absolutely everything about something or just feel like u are.
work does expect things of u cos they hire u to do a particular job. at school it sucks when u are expected to work 24/7 to do well when u don't need to work that hard, or find the work easy when u are having trouble or something.

At work I am expected to use my common sense but I lack it because reading between the lines is very difficult for me, especially connecting the dots. I am also expected to know where every single thing is at work and what every single item is called.

I do better when no-one expects too much of me too.

I also do better when the conditions are right, if they are not and I have to take time to get them right, things may not get done.
