No. It contributes greatly to who I am, though.

'Define' - verb. To mark out (limits, boundary); fix or show clearly; state precise meaning of.

No, it doesn't define me. It's part of who I am and without it I wouldn't be me. But I am much more than a set of diagnostic criteria.

Our 'symptoms' are in fact ourselves.

Asperger's is just a term. So is autism. I don't define myself using other people's definitions. But the traits that are associated with autism - yes they do define me to myself, because I have to watch everything I do and everything that happens around me to know what it is that is unsettling me at any given moment. But I think that's more to do with the way society is organized, not the way I am, so I voted no. Does this make any sense?

it explains me, defines me, it is not me, it is me, it is everything it is nothing. I am a child of God and she , he or it, has made me like she, he or it did for a real reason that remains a mystery. To sit with that mystery, without trying to find any answers seems to be the thing.

However........... I get good days I get bad. And some days I which I had an A to Z with it all mapped out

No, Aspergers does not define me.

It explains some of my behavior and my thoughts...but there is more to me than that.

I wish it didn't, but yes, I think it does. It's definitely better than the alternative.

That's a hard question. I definitely don't think I'm a "typical Asperger's person" or anything like that. But would I be the same person without AS? No, of course not. It would be absurd to think that. But I tend to think that while I do share many traits with others on the spectrum, I'm still uniquely me. Plus, there are many ways which I don't fit aspie stereotypes. For instance, most aspies have no interest in sports, but I love the Yankees very much. AS is part of the picture for me, but I'm still my own person.

It does for me. I am not sure how anyone can answer otherwise. If we didn't have AS we would be a completely different people. Different personality, different interests, different attitude.
