I use to only rock back and forth while sitting, now its more of standing and walking as well also. I remember seeing the mtv special on true life:living with autism, and seeing that severely autistic rocking himself as he was standing, and walking...I looked exactly like that, it was weird. Anybody else rock back and forth while standing or sitting?

I sway side to side when I stand; I also rotate at my waist/hips other times.

Either of the two when I stand, I always do these; I have no idea why no one pointed it out to me (the severity varies from "severe" to barely noticeable depending on how comfortable I am).

I mean, I just stand up now and I automatically sway side to side (it's extremely easy to see).

I'd have to pay attention to myself for that.
However, I do play with my hands a lot, I can't leave them alone.

O yeah, I also rock back and forth when I'm overwhelmed as I sit; the last time I did it severely was in a waiting room as the appointment I had was an hour late.

I don't really find it comforting when my body does it; I know some people say it soothes them, forward and backwards feels yuck to me; side to side when standing is comfortable to me.

I don't rock much when I sit.

And I also play around with my hands a lot; I do the stereotypical hand twirling and hand shaking thingies when I talk to people/in the presence of people.

I play with my hands alllll the time, obsessed with my hands, either flicking them in front of my face, opening and closing my hands constantly, twisting my fingers, biting my hands, flapping just the hands just to watch them flap hahahaha. I make myself so stimulated doing that, and i laugh forever, everybody around me just thinks its soo funny, how easily amused i am haha, oh well hehe!

I dont rock, but I pace up and down if I am made to wait for anything. If I am at a bus stop I sort of walk up and down in front of the shelter, though I try to stop because people are looking at me. I seem to not have the ability to stand still long without breaking into a pace...

When I was a kid my mother had to watch me carefully when we were out shopping because of my tendency to wander off.

Sorry I know that is nothing to do with rocking.. I think it is just my overactive mind.. standing still translates into my mind wanting to be doing something and then my legs start moving and thats it.

I sway a bit side to side when I am standing. It usually is only my midsection so I stand there with my hips rocking side to side with my chest staying pretty much still.
I seldom rock front to back while standing, unless I start leaning against a wall to curb my swaying. Then I start bouncing off the wall and slamming back into it. All the benefits of rocking with extra pressure, plus extra oddness. :D

I rock a bit when I sit and I can never keep my feet still. It's not too severe though.

think lots of people do this though...

but i do standing, especially when WAITING for something...

i also catch myself pacing in small circles whenever i am playing with my testtubes at the lab and am making small adjustments to things while they are in my hands. helps me focus

All the time while standing or sitting, even if the chair is not a rocking chair.
