One of my most annoying traits is my insistence on doing everything in the most difficult way possible. People laugh at me and say (or suggest) "why aren't you doing this the normal way?" Even when I see that there are simpler ways of doing things, I refuse to give in to them. I seem to arrive at an analytical approach to a problem or activity and stick to it, despite the fact that there are simpler solutions or ways of going about something. This often makes me appear physically clumsy or uncoordinated (or LAZY in their eyes??).
Does anyone else have this problem?

Yeah, I've always been called the kid that learns the hard way in my family. Never fails. It just seems that I have to bang my head into the wall before I get it.

You want to explore things, to understand how they work, and to see if there's newer, better ways to do them. Other people just want to get things done, quickly, and in a manner that doesn't make them look different. So who is the lazy one, do you think?

BTW, yes, it happens to me all the time. It tells me a lot about the other people.

My mom used to ask me "Why do you always have to learn things the hard way?" as if there was some other way to learn things and actually understand them. I guess most people learn things, but don't really understand them.

That's actually a horrible personality quirk I have. Even if I know there is a simpler way to do something, or there is a shortcut, I have this strange need to do things in the way which seems the most direct (I tend to "brute force" things). I get this horrible feeling that if I do things the easy way, this way is somehow "wrong", and it will make me stupider.

I don't do things the hard way, but I take more than one route to find the easiest way..;) I usually see more than 1 way to do things most times, anyways..;)

In school I take the easiest route to get the highest grade possible. I seriously havn't learned ANYTHING in the last 4 or so years in school. I either do homeword late or only do the easy work. I can't focus with the extremely bright lights and bickering.
My answers are totally based on logic. I maintain a B average from this concept. I'd like to change...but I just can't.

My mother always accussed me of doing my homework the hard way when I was at school. It used to take me twice as long as most to do it and in the end, I didn't get a great score...just "average" :(

Couldn't have said that better, Zee! Nowadays people put quantity ahead of quality so anything that slows things down is seen as anti whatever and laughed off as stupid.

It's no wonder NT's are lazy in the old brain box. They just don't want to know about high quality information and thinking!

That's not very nice. I think that's an unfair assumption about NTs.

Assumption my left foot! I've seen it, and in the majority of NT's I've had the displeasure to work with! Yeah it's not nice, but truth hurts!

I am constantly accused of "doing things the hard way," as if the common way of doing thing is the best way of doing things for all people in all situations.

Hey, the Reds have a great record! Most of the national team are Reds players. Must be a United loser, eh? LOL.

I often take the harder route exactly because it gives me the better workout; with me, "route" can be applied in pretty much any aspect you like.

I'm drawn to challenges exactly because they make me stronger. As I'm fond of saying, there's always a method to my madness.

Yeah, this aspect of me aggravates other people sometimes; their problem, not mine.

Good fortune,

Challenges are my reason for finding the hard way to do everything. I'm addicted to the satisfaction I get out of solving problems, especially ones that no on else can solve. I get teased a little for being a workaholic, but work gets really boring if nothing's broken, and I end up finding something to improve to fill my time. This works out really well in IT, though it gets frustrating to find that my reputation for being "weird" tends to overshadow anything I accomplish.
