Maybe not in the autistic sense (well actually, he shows some signs, but then again, this is MY family we're talking about).

Meet my nephew; all 20 months of him:

He was a micropreemie born at 23 weeks and 2 days, only weighing 1 pound and 4 ounces.

Is it a fact that a greater number of intellectuals/professors wear prescription glasses compared to the less cerebral ilk of humanity, or is it a stereotype?

The combination of almost constant reading interspersed with absent mindedly staring into the distance messes your eyes up pretty quickly ;)

Wow!
I thought that no one could possibly weigh less than I did at birth which was 2 pound 9 ounces! I was born at about 32 weeks I think, though.

He's a little cutie with those glasses haha.

I think it's a stereotype. I'm sure at some point in history it was true, intellectuals who went to school and got jobs in intellectual fields (professors, lawyers, doctors, etc.) were more likely to be able to afford glasses and besides that, if they had bad eyesight they probably needed glasses in order to preform their job.

lastcrazyhorn, your nephew's so cute! Something about little kids wearing glasses is just adorable!

Yeah, most people that couldn't read and did manual labor probably didn't even know how bad their eyes were. If I didn't have to read, I wouldn't have gotten my second pair. My first pair were because of my stupid optometrist's theory that I had eye strain. I should have left well enough alone. My eyesight was 20/25!

I got my first pair of glasses when I was seventeen even though I should have got them about 5 years earlier. I remember how shocking was discovery that people seen in the streets by me when I was coming home in new glasses on my nose were so ugly 8O - at last I could see all those widened small blood vessels and beauty spots on their faces after many years
