Every time I see roll eyes on here, I always wonder what is that for? What does it mean? Are they not caring what you say? Do they not care about you? Are they bored with what you say? Are they being sarcastic?

Rolling eyes has different meanings and every time I see someone rolling their eyes, it doesn't tell me anything.

Do you roll your eyes? If so, why?

It depends on context. I myself like to roll my eyes quite a lot.

It could mean annoyance, "look what I have to deal with", boredom, sarcasm (less, though) or simply that they just like the emoticon.

I didn't AT ALL until a few years ago. I did it as a reflex reaction for like the first only yesterday.

It is a quiet and universal way to say an idea or person is nuts.

Theres a whole area of psychology (or pseudo-psychology?) that deals with which way you look when your thinking - some people say it can help you analyse a person by watching which way their eyes move when they think about certain things.

So it could be something to do with that i suppose? You could ask people which way they roll when feeling dismissive - i think i go up and to (my) right.

If you know what the phrase "there he goes again" means, you know what eye rolling means.

I think Wilco's closest, particularly the emoticon.

In my obsessive attempts at narrating my own existence, I hereby conclude that shall be translated to something along the lines of, "What a stupid and unnecessary situation/reaction!"--at least in my own private subuniverse. Your mileage may vary.

I do it when I think someone is being stupid, dumb, ignorant, being annoying, boring me out with their arguments.

I occasionally use the emoticon to express disdain when i cannot be bothered attempting to formulate and express my thoughts in a coherent and polite way. This is clearly wrong. It suggests i do not consider the quotee worthy of my time (in which case it would be far better to say nothing at all)

Mostly i use it in a humourous, lightly self-depreciating way. This shows great strength of character! :P

I think everybody is right! I feel that it can have more than one meaning depending on who uses it and the context in which its used.

In real life this has caused me problems until I realised. I used it mainly in a dismissive way 'don't be ridiculous'. My girlfriend would do this to me in arguments and it would really annoy me. But she swore blind that she didn't mean it like that. The way she meant it was in a frustration way like 'sigh'. It took me ages to get my head around that one.
I also use it in a mock 'oh here we go way' to tease someone but normally accompanied by a slight smile in case it's taken the wrong way.

People roll their eyes at me when I utter a truth that everyone knows but everyone shuts up, such as the king is nude.

It's a non verbal way of saying "Oh puh-lease" or "Well duh." Like that was a stupid thing to say, or sometimes to say how obvious something was.
