Just wondering about the makeup of our little group

btw: I was diagnosed with it a few years ago.

Diagnosed by current psychiatrist.
I'm very skeptical of people who claim to have Asperger's but have not gotten an actual and correct diagnosis. It seems to be the thing on that outrageous "emo" fad.

I would be interested to see a poll like this on a non-autism related website too.

I was diagnosed 10th January 2008 (or this year)

I only seem to have some of the traits.
AS is most likely a flawed concept that should be done with so I don't think I care for a dx; there's more to life than a trendy autism dx.
I think I risk being labelled as having Asperger's. . . by so-called NTs.

Possibly, but I speak for myself when I say I'm a tad old for emo. I don't have a diagnosis and do not have the means nor the inclination to get one. I also don't claim to have it, I read stuff and recognise myself in it and so think that I probably do have it. I have no idea if I would be formally diagnosed or not, what does it matter? It would do me no good whatsoever so I'm not pursuing it. To me, exploring this is just self-awareness. It's not so I can tell people I have it or join some sort of group, it's to better understand myself.

back when I was a child it was something hidden in the bedroom, not let out of the back yard. Going to family affairs was extremely painful for my parents as they always had me on a leash and a leather harness if I was out of the fenced in back yard.

and that was with the little sign around my neck stating to all and sundry: I BITE!

and now it is 'trendy!' how lovely.

IMO, it's your opinion. I had no idea about Asperger's Synrome until my School Councler told me she thought I had it. I follow this 'fad' because I can not talk to people and they won't make fun of me for it.
I've decided it's something I'm getting rid of, though. It's something I no longer want to be assicated with.

It is a fad considering that a similar fad appeared in the 1900s before disappearing.
I dislike emos diagnosing themselves with Asperger's because it makes no sense, and I'm guessing that "chronic depression" didn't work anymore.
I consider it a fad I don't like; it's too much bleakness and whining when life is great for them (I mean, not everyone can afford the internet). Although I guess I'm biased because I actually did have a bad childhood (AS didn't help either).

It's not my fault if a lot of people basically act that way which is what my comment was aimed at (and not specifically you since I don't know you).

I'm finding this very NT stereotypical anyway - trying to concot an elite out of nothing. . .
I've seen it in other forums full of social outcasts such as social anxiety forums; they make threads whining that "there are intruders in the forum" and basically try to witch hunt out anyone who doesn't conform to a stereotype or who's got better luck at coping - so if you managed to graduate from uni or have a few friends or maybe a girlfriend then there'll always be a clique drawing the line from their own limitations there to tell you you are not as "autentic" as they are.

. . .and as I said, this is even more ridiculous in the case of AS because it does seem to be cut by Occam's Razor in favour of just "HFA" or "PDD-NOS". . .
. . . so that's what my sarcasm is aimed at - I wouldn't be surprised if they did a Southpark episode out of this; it's really the kind of thing. . .

I've been diagnosed by three different doctors, one of which is the leading specialist in autism spectrum disorders in my state.

well, I am not diagnosed, and I am not sure, I am more sure about other things like social phobia, anxieties and innatention problems.

Yes i have Asperger's Syndrome n i was diagnosed 10 years ago.

If you do not support the diagnosis of Asperger's syndrome, why do you come here?

i saw a specialist out in OR when i first had my epiphany (not an official appointment, but i had contacted her about some issues i was having and she was nice enough to see me and give me info on local AS meetings)... we talked about my childhood ect... and she definitely encouraged me to come in for testing... but i couldn't afford it. so, no official DX....

but i feel i understand myself better.

I didn't think my little poll question would cause such a ruckus. It's a very simple question, with very simple answers. I'm just curious about the makeup of WrongPlanet.net's 16,000 members. Please don't argue over this, we can create another topic to do that.

I am diagnosed with mild AS, but I suggested the diagnosis myself, after reading something about it in Time. The more I've read, the more convinced I've become that it is correct, and that I am a "classic" aspie.

I'm pretty damned skeptical of those with the "pedigree", since it is a fad thing.
There are a lot of different reasons why some of us don't, a lot of them.
Emo, wtf is that? Some fad? Speak English. I can send you to a shrink that will, guaranteed, diagnose you as not having it, want his address?
I should have had my leather leash from my childhood bronzed, I think they did my baby shoes instead.
Can you tell this kind of attitude tends to piss me off?

It isn't a simple question ED, as long as we have these I'm holier then you are because I have a paper for proof of being an Aspie.
