Well, I know most people here (me included) rehearse possible conversations so we know what to say if somebody talks to us, or how to respond. But do you rehearse a conversation after it has taken place? I do, and it's a little uncomfortable, because you start thinking in all the things that you could have said or done, even if you did well at said conversation.

Ah, yes! So very often! Sometimes I think half my thoughts are made up of rehearsing conversations before the fact or rehashing them afterward.

I do it all the time. I often find myself repeating the complete dialogue and then experiencing as if the conversation is still going on.

During my teen years I seriously thought i was crazy because of it. :?

i do it all the time...and usually because i think i've said something stupid, or thought maybe i've misinterpreted something someone has said (which i do quite a bit). or just to make sure i've not missed anything...
hell...i actually have no idea why i do it....lol

Yeah I plan out conversations with people, like what if they say this, then I can say this, I do it alot. But no plan survives meeting the enemy often!

I not only do it backwards and forwards, but whether I've screwed up, or am pleased with myself.

I used to have dreams that I would deliberately repeat within the same night, except they'd never go quite as right the second time around.

Yup and there is actually a French phrase which means that.

Yup, I put it down to my social phobia though.

When I mess up in a conversation, or feel like I have, the words tend to get stuck in my head on a loop and I go though it all again, over and over, thinking out each and every possible way I could have answered a certain question, or how I could have reacted to a certain action. Then follows the part where I think of the perfect way to answer a question/action and then feel extremely frustrated with myself for not thinking of it at the time.

I only do this if someone says that I said something stupid or inappropriate at any given time. My mother often tells me after a conversation has finished [if she was here at the time] if something I said was stupid or if I need to appologize to someone. To play a conversation back in my head, helps me to clarify if what I said was really as bad as people made it out to be.

YES. After almost every conversation. And it makes me very sad and angry at myself every time.

Most definitely, i can spend hours trying to come up with different responses people might have. And afterwards i evaluate (in my head) to learn what went wrong and what went right :study:
