Obsessing on what you should have done?

Are Aspies known to do this more than NT's? All my life I have been one to kick myself for doing/not doing things in certain situations, and spend hours constantly berating myself. They say hindsight is always 20/20 but still I do it. I have a hard time moving on.

Thoughts?

I don't obsess on what I should have done, I do obsess on what I couldn't do, and why.


Its the only reason I finally figured out and was confirmed to have Aspergers, as well as the long journey of understanding of the whys and why nots on the NT side of things. There is a whole world around us throughout our experience. I couldn't figure why people were acting or not acting the way they were and should have, ect. I obsess more on what others did not do. I never obsess what I didn't do. I did everything I could at all times. Including this journey of understanding-though I have to admit, it seems often the most hopeless of ones.

I have obsessed for up to a year about things I wished I had done in a given situation. I know it's a waste of time, and certainly won't change anything at this point, but still I do it.

I kick myself years after my social faux pas. I think it was my way of training myself to have less of them.

I do this too. Even about things I did as a kid when I didn't know better. I think a lot of it is because I chose one of a few options on how to act/react to something, and it obviously didn't work, so now I know what the "correct" response would have been. Its maddening. I am better now at forcing my self to not think about it, but I still can't get over the anxiety when I do obsess.

i do that too, maybe aspies do it more cos we tend to have a more black and white way of thinking
