Thanks - very interesting article.

It also references a book that might be worth looking at: Genius Genes: How Asperger Talents Changed the World, by Michael Fitzgerald

(This is the type of thing I read to feel better about myself, hahaha)

Nice how the Director of the Autism group throws cold water, they are cripples and need me!

I did a study of inventors, not wanting to hear from Autism groups, I will say they were a strange lot.

I am sure a study of engineers would show the same.

The Arts,

The Sciences,

While it is true we are not all great yet, if there was a school for great thinking range, we would all be in.

I think Autistics could be trained to excel. We are being treated to limit our range of thought, while NT's are being given courses in creative thinking.

Are NT's taking Remedial Autism?

Well, einstein described me when he described himself!:

"My passionate sense of social justice and social responsibility has always contrasted oddly with my pronounced lack of need for direct contact with other human beings and human communities. I am truly a lone traveler and have never belonged to my country, my home, my friends, or even my immediate family, with my whole heart; in the face of all these ties, I have never lost a sense of distance and a need for solitude..."

Gene-E--us! topic

Who said that for success in the sciences, as dash of Autism is essential?

Maybe this is what creativity is. Asperger's and Autism. Focusing intently on details, shutting out the unnecessary. Is not this what Marie Curie, Irene Curie, Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, Robert Stroud (Birdman of Alcatraz), Bill Gates, Wolfgang A. Mozart, and, of course, Temple Grandin have all done? And these are just the tip of the iceberg!

Every culture, race, religion and gender has contributed to the creative genius in this world, and has made the world a little different, often a whole lot more interesting, and mostly for the better! 8)

This is nothing new, but is always comforting to read.

Well, I guess my point was simply that there seem to be a lot of newbies at WP (particularly new parents) who feel bad about their kids. These are the kind of articles that help them to feel better, accept and move on.

It made my kids feel better. I bought them a book called 'My Book of Autism Heroes' and they read it over and over the first few months after we told them about Asperger's.

I'll have a look out for this book too.

Thanks Gav.
