and I don't think I will be able to sleep 8O

"The Strangers" to be specific... I didn't know what it was about. It's about people breaking into a house and killing people (sorry if I ruined something there, I hope that's obvious by the commercials). Well I had someone try to break into my house about 3 years ago while I was home and it still scares me every day. So I'm scared at night anyway, and now with this movie every time I look at a window I'm expecting to see a face on the other side looking back at me :pale:

Do you think it's an AS trait to get scared easily or dwell on past events? I don't seem to notice it as much with other people.

I suppose it could be,
Consider this: (1) It is an AS trait to have good memory about things. (2)It is an AS trait to need to have questions answered.(3) It is also an AS trait to think about something then examine the possibilities and try and see something from every angle. (4)It is an AS trait to have special interests.

You might have a mix of the above which could correlate to what has happened, how you feel, and what you are doing.
(1) AS Trait Memory: You remember the events that happened in your home from three years ago very well .
(2) AS Trait Questions: I don't know you, but you may be wondering why these people would break in
(3) AS Trait Over Analyzing: Thinking about past events and wondering if it could happen again and being reminded by a movie is normal
(4) AS Trait Specialised Interests: I suppose thinking about the incident (dwelling) on it could become a small temporary specialized interest

So there you have it, it could be an AS trait.

Kriska, I don't think this is an AS trait. I'm frightened at home alone at night. I always turn on the alarm. I think more specifically, women are almost "trained" to be more careful, and I think that also causes us to be more fearful. Having had an attempted break in must have terrified you.. this movie all just brought it back. I think it's very natural to feel this way for both AS, and NT.

What he said.
Its normal of people AS and NT alike,

I was just purposely trying to come up with a dry way to relate it to AS traits.

I don't think I've seen that movie, but there's a lot of movies that are so demented I think they disturb a lot of people AS and NT alike. I think women are also more sensitive to scary movies, maybe because women are often the victims in those movies.

Could also be that many AS people have a tendency to having PTSD from childhood traumas and scary movies will certainly trigger those with PTSD.

I just watched a gory movie last night called Club Dread. Had no idea how much blood & murder was in the movie. I only rented it because I have an obsession with Brittany Daniels.

Have you seen that movie I think its called "The Descent" about a group of gals that explore an Applachian cave? I was having chest pains watching it and is the only time I have ever screamed in a theater. I have a bad heart valve so that's where the chest pains come from because I'm sensitive to stressors. I only went to see the blasted movie because I love caves and used to be a spelunker when I was younger. Yeah that movie was so scary GROWN MEN that went to the movie alone were getting up and leaving! So its not like they had a scaredy cat girl friend to blame it on.

I seen that movie and it scared me a bit. But I'm scared of the dark, so I just thought it was because of that.

Fair warning: this post contains spoilers. If you'd rather not know, please don't read any further. Thanks.

I'm sorry that you were disturbed by the movie, but look at it this way. The victims in Strangers were blithering idiots! When the killers were attacking them in the house, they kept trying to hide in places where they could be easily found: in the basement, in the closet, even behind a table turned on its side. Sure, the phone lines were cut, but so what? The victims could have at least run out of the house, onto the main road nearby, and toward the nearest gas station (or a 24-hour Wal-Mart) where they could call the police. Instead, they chose to stay in the house, thinking they could outsmart a bunch of mentally unstable killers. As sad as it is when someone dies, they almost brought it on themselves, because of the dumb decisions they made.

You are much smarter than the people in that movie! If, God forbid, something similar happens, you know better than to keep hiding in the house. Instead, you will do what makes most sense: run outside to a nearest business or a neighbor. Knock on the door and scream: "Call the police! There's someone chasing me, and he's got a weapon!" At the minimum, you can use your cell phone (most high-end models have GPS capabilities, and all digital cell phones can be traced to the nearest tower). Simply put, you have your intelligence to protect you; the victims in Strangers didn't.

I definitely wouldn't call this an AS trait. I think anyone would be affraid, especially if they had an experience like you did a few years ago. I think it's more of a product of the world we live in today ...sadly :?

their [females vs males] neurology is different so they are naturally more emotional, their brain connections are more 'together' so they will show and feel emotion more

there's also the co-morbidity of stuff like meltdowns and all that. Flight-Or-Fight system 'out of balance'. Forgot the right term, Temple Grandin mentioned part of that.

I'm sorry you were freaked out by that and had that awful experience years ago. This is exactly why I spend my nights watching hilarious reruns of Married With Children on youtube... at least I'll be going to bed remembering something funny... and it does help! Anyway I know this doesn't help but just remember, you will be okay, my suggestion is to watch something that amuses you before getting to bed, it may help.
