*snort* Those were horribly amusing, or amusingly horrible, I'm not sure which.

They're quite old, according to Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr_Logic
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viz_(comic)

Quote:
# Mr Logic – ("such is my name, therefore one may infer that this strip is in some way about me") a serious young man with no sympathy for other humans. Mr. Logic was inspired by Chris Donald's own brother, Steve, who was much later diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome

The ending is quite depressing...

Logic is a pretty bird, chirping in the meadow.

Logic is a bunch of pretty flowers that smell bad.

I saw it in this months issue of Viz, and I thought of this forum!

Reminds me of my husband. Constantly correcting and more precisely and accurately defining everything I have to say. Very irritating. (although not quite that extreme!)

I used to read Viz magazine pretty regularly. The cartoons are all very crude, but I find most of them pretty funny. I was never much of a fan of Mr Logic, because he's too predictable.
Then again, one of my favourite characters, 8 Ace, is even more predictable. He's an alcoholic. Every 8 Ace episode would be pretty much the same: his wife giving the last of what little cash they had so he could go and buy bread or nappies, and him spending it all on booze. (See what I mean about crude?)

I didn't know till now that Mr Logic was based on Chris Donald's aspie brother (Steve). Apparently, Steve Donald was not diagnosed till long after the Mr Logic character had become established. It makes me wonder how well they got on, and what exactly Steve makes of the whole Mr Logic thing.

I never really found Mr Logic offensive. I guess I would be more concerned if someone created a character and explicitly told readers he/she had AS, and then encouraged people to laugh at him/her for that reason.
I haven't come across any such characters yet, but I imagine it won't be long. Tourette's Syndrome and schizophrenia (or at least multiple personality disorder) are already quite commonly used for comedy purposes. I suppose this only becomes offensive to some people when the disorder is presented as both something to laugh at AND the only significant aspect of the character's personality.

What I would say though is that while people might find over-precise people amusing, what they probably don't see when dealing with ASD people - at least in my experience - is all the anxiety and frustration that comes with constantly struggling to understand and constantly seeking clarification, not to mention the cumulative effects of forever being considered rude or stupid. In contrast, I don't think many people would have much difficulty appreciating that having Tourette's or schizophrenia would have a profound effect on a person's life (even if they can't imagine what it's like).

Maybe this is more analysis than is really necessary ...
I'm still a Viz fan.
