I Googled online and found that picky eating can be somewhat related to autism, and I'm wondering if anyone here is a bit picky in the foods they eat. For instance, I *hate* eating most foods leftover, since while my family insists it "tastes the same," I can very much notice the difference, and think that leftover food tastes vastly inferior to when it was originally cooked. There are some foods that I can eat leftover when cooked right, like pizza, although I just have a disdain for leftovers in general. There are also some foods I absolutely refuse to eat, like broccoli, pickles, mustard, and such, and the texture of foods I don't like in some respects plays a part in whether I eat it or not. I also get uneasy when trying new food my mom makes, and it annoys me when she makes meals she *knows* I don't like. Granted, I am somewhat afraid to criticize her cooking since she can easily oppress me with her slanderous tongue...

What do you all think?

I can't eat lettuce at all. I choke on it.

My mom would suggest I'm a terribly picky eater.

Tim answered your question! He almost always seems to be the opposite of everyone else! I'm picky.

I'm an extremely picky eater, and I always have been. The only vegetables I'll eat are radishes and some potatoes, for example - I think about 70% of the food I encounter is torture because it tastes terrible. I don't mind leftovers if they're something I like in the first place, though I also don't like mustard and broccoli and pickles (especially broccoli). I'll only try new foods if I know ahead of time what they are, which usually isn't very often. There are a few choice "foods" I won't even bear to look at or touch because they are so rancid and disgusting and I don't understand how anyone could like them.

I used to be a picky eater but not anymore. I eat nearly anything [thats vegan] apart from beetroot.

So picky! My mother despairs of ever getting me to eat vegetables.

I'm an extremely picky eater. My eating patterns are odd, sometimes I simply can't eat anything and sometimes I feel like eating everything I can see.
My eating habits worry my mum a lot so I see a nutritionist now.

My parents did not allow my sister or me to be picky eaters. They were very much into control. BUT, I refused to eat peas. One time they made me eat an undercooked soft-boiled egg at breakfast and I threw up at the table. I don't think they ever tried making me eat an undercooked egg again.

No slimy vegetables (eggplant, cooked tomatoes, etc.). Except for cooked spinach (but I haven't tried that since I was a child).
No eggs that are not completely cooked (either scrambled and thoroughly cooked, hard-boiled, or over easy).
Nothing too fatty; and yes, I can taste that and it's gross.
If I try, I will be sick.

Dude, I should have just copied your message. If I had been allowed not to eat things, what you mentioned are what I wouldn't have eaten.

My older son, to this day, will not eat anything that's green. He will try it, but won't eat it regularly. He basically exists on meat and potatoes.

My younger son, though, eats a very good diet of his own choosing. Heaven knows he doesn't get it from his parents, who have awful dietary habits!

Yes, in fact I didn't get ASD dx until adulthood, yet throughout my entire childhood my "food issues" were the one thing everyone harped on me about (and which set me apart from others). No one could figure out why I was so "difficult" and different, and I certainly didn't know why either-except that it was not for the reasons other people believed (I hate most food bc. of the inherently aversive/repulsive sensory qualities of the food-not for some complex psychological reason having to do with all sorts of irrelevant stuff). Have commented on this topic several times, in other threads here-too numerous to track down & list links to.
