Does anyone else experience whole-body spasms every so often? My whole body will just kinda spasm all of a sudden, after a brief feeling of build-up. But I can usually suppress it with a little effort. I thought it was some odd form of shivering, because it happens most often when I'm cold, but after learning I have AS I've taken more notice of my quirks, and I realized that it happens even when I'm not cold.

The other day, I was wearing a hat, and the weird spasms happened extremely often that day. It was really bad and I couldn't even fully suppress it. But when I took the hat off, I noticed that it mostly stopped. So I'm guessing it's at least partially related to touch sensitivity. It doesn't only happen when I'm cold or wearing a hat, though.

Does this happen to anyone else?

This usually happens when I gotta piss. I'll shiver sometimes, as if I were cold.

Yeah, I've done this. It's like I suddenly shudder, only I'm not sure why. I wondered if maybe it's some random surge of adrenaline or something, because it almost feels that way afterward. People think it's funny.

Haha, yeah, explains how it ended up in the movie Dumb And Dumber.

I only get them in lecture hall when other things in my life aren't going well.

I get them at night, occasionally. It's always when I'm drifting off to sleep. :?

That's called a myoclonic jerk, if my memory of House serves.

It could be some type of epileptic seizure - a myclonic jerk is a type. It could also be an absence. Do you have a moment of "black" before, or is it just the spasm?

Have a look on wikipedia, anyway. They have a good section on seizures.

I get them all the time. I control them by rocking back and forth. It could be normal temperatures and I would suddenly feel cold.

I figured everyone must have it, oh dear. Well, I have it daily so, eh, I just thought everyone knew it. I never asked a doctor about it. I hate seeing doctors.

I can't suppress it, it just comes out of sudden and goes away as fast.

At least yours go away fast. Mine lasts for about 3-6 minutes depending if someone throws me a blanket/jacket. Like I posted earlier, usually rocking calms me down.

I have them quite frequently, also mostly when it is cold. Someone once told me that they were electrical discharges from the brain - I don't know how true this is but it does seem to travel down my spine as though coming from my head perhaps...
