I am told that i am repetitive a lot. It gets on my family's nerves. i've always been this way. i can't help it that i am repetitive, i tell my family, which they know is part of autism, that i do this to feel heard. i need to have a feeling of clarity which is why i am repetitive. at times, i don't even realise that i am repetitve. i get in trouble for that often.

nice to know that someone else is like this too. i am often told by my family as well that i do this. sometimes i realize it when i notice that whomever i am speaking to has started doing something else and doesn't respond to something that requires a response. i hate that i do it, but i can't stop myself from being like this.

Yep. What I usually do now is write it down before I react. Sounds stupid but it's helped a lot. Now I know what they mean by choose your battles. If something is said over and over, they never hear it.

I do this too. Writing stuff down helps though.
I have gotten this a lot at work "What did I tell you?"
Now carrying a notepad in my pocket is in my routine now, I don't keep on forgetting it in my locker anymore.

I used to talk about the same stuff over and over when I was growing up and my mother had to tell me I have talked about it enough, people are going to stop listening to me. I'd even fixate on stuff too and keep talking about it.

I have even been told I say the same stuff over and over and repeat myself over and over. My two ex's noticed it and few people online have pointed it out to me.

I have a system but I have learned to cope with changes in life.

I like to tell the same stories over and over. Not right after one another, but more often than people like to hear. I enjoy telling them and expect those i tell to react to them like they did the first time, which they usually don't, instead saying "yeah, i know, you already told me that like 3 times before!"

oh, well.

I talked about Spokane and Benny & Joon a lot with my boyfriend but now I don't anymore. Comcast seemed to have stopped it because it distracted me from the routine, now I watch the shows on it now instead of the movie. I don't have time for it.

I often have people repeat what they just said to me because my attention happened to wander. Otherwise, they think that I heard what they were saying only to realize later that I hadn't. I'm also reluctant to ask them to repeat sometimes because of the embarrassment that would cause.

My parents also say that I tend to tell the same story over and over, especially when I'm ranting. I just want to make sure that they heard or saw what I had said, because too often others don't even seem to notice when I talk.

I still am very much so. I used to get made fun of for it, now it's just my family who has to deal with it. I noticed a lot of y'all describe yourselves as needing to feel heard, which is how I am. I don't know if in my case it has anything to do with my (possible) AS, so much as the fact that my family habitually doesn't give recognizable feedback when I talk to them and never has.

I'm wondering if this is tied to the theory of mind hypothesis, i.e. people with AS have difficulty keeping track of what other people do and don't know. When I was younger I would get told a lot that I was telling someone something I had already told them. Many times before.
