I read that being late to walk could indicate Asperger's.
I couldn't walk til I was at least 2 and a half. At the time it was put down to spina bifida occulta (very tiny gap in the spine), but I've seen a few hip and spine specialists who have told me that the spina bifida is so minimal that it almost definitely did not prevent me to walk.
So what did? No-one seems to know. I just wonder if it was a sign of something else that no-one picked up on.
Was anyone else on here late to start walking?
When did you take your first steps?

I was actually early. My parents said I was full of energy and began running at an early age. I have also heard that walking and running too early, especially if one rarely crawled, is also an indicator.

Ah, how they try to distinguish AS and HFA (they're the same thing, but certain professionals try to keep the two distinct due to realizing that they just created two names for the same disorder; motor difficulties--talking before walking; verbal versus performance, hair color, etcetera).

I was quickly mobile and walking at 9 months.

I've learned to walk unassisted, 14 months of age.

Walking path(ology) topic

I did not walk until I was 18 months, according to my mother. I scooted along the floor on my butt and used my hands and arms to propel myself along. Apparently I would sit by myself and contemplate things. Something I still do. :D

i was a late walker. i even have memories of crawling....and I crawled alot long after I learned to walk..My mom was concerned about my motor skills and thought my hands and feet seemed to be underdeveloped...even though I was the opposite of premature..born a month late... Shore-nuff..I ended up being a toe walker...though I think I might have habitually started going up on my toes after I learned to walk the normal way...could be wrong though.

I personally haven't heard of late walking with Asperger's. Developmental delays are more associated with "classic" autism. My son started walking at 15 months, he never crawled. It took him a long time to give up holding onto things. He's autistic.
I"m likely Aspie and I met all my developmental milestones on time.

My mother always says I walked sometime between 7 to 9 months. I've been walking quite well at 9 months at Christmas Eve of which the family has lots of pictures. The reason why I walked early was probably because I didn't crawl, didn't rob and instead just sat there I was placed until I learned walking.
I didn't/don't have any motor issues, maybe that's why I walked early?
My mother and my aunt walked much later, at 12/13 and 18 months and they're both almost NT.

My experience with young children on the spectrum has been that girls on the spectrum start walking earlier and boys start later. I am NotOfficiallyDiagnosed and started at 9 months. My son is OfficiallyDiagnosed and didn't really start until about 14 months.

I think there should be a difference. I don't have Aspergers because I was severely Autistic when I was younger, and I can't change to Aspergers. I have most of the symptoms of Aspergers now, but I would say that I have HFA because of my past.

I walked at 17 months. I didn't sit until 9 months. I don't have an official diagnosis of AS.
