I am just wondering if anyone has seen the Recovered video put out by the Center for Autism Research and Development (CARD). What did you think of the movie? o kids recover with ABA? My son is about to receive ABA at 3 years old. The movie shows kids from 2-4 yrs old "recovering" from autism...meaning IQ is above 10. I would be proud to have any of them as kids. They show them at age 12-15 today and their skills, likes, dislikes, etc. Video is full of hope.

First off, I have to say, watch out when stating IQ scores for those with ASDs and using those as a determination of recovery. In many cases, the IQ tests given were based on verbal communication and the willingness of the test subject and as such, the scores may not be reliable.

The 2nd concern I have is with the language being used. Recovery is an interesting term because it assumes that a person once had autism and now they do not and that simply is not the case. Before, autism severely affected the persona now they are not as severely affected by autism, but they are still autistic.

As for the video, I have never seen it but if it is online, please post a link for all to share.

I have to agree with demeus. I am severely autistic but I can pass as neurotypical in many different situations. My I.Q. was once measured at 85, but I made it through one of the hardest schools in the nation. ABA can do wonders if properly carried out, but it can also cause much damage if not done properly.

HOW could you even test a child for an IQ of 10? wouldn't that be too low to actually be measured? I mean I would expect a 10 year old with an IQ of 10 to be just starting to walk, and saying his/her first words, etc...

But, from what I have heard, I think even daniel implies this, MOST autistic kids have IQs over 10. OBVIOUSLY everyone here does!
