I know it is not a trait for everyone. A lot of times, I feel like just watching television or sitting in front of the computer. I am wondering if it is a trait of autism.

I personally don't think so since I am generally quite hard working but motivation can be a problem so it could lead to it..

Anxiety can lead to indecision which can lead to inaction, which can be construed as laziness, or procrastination.
I think that many people who are viewed as "lazy" can be quite productive if they are given a clear course of action,
and the work is not mind-numbingly dull. I think just as many NTs are inclined to "veg-out" in front of the TV.

I'm not certain, but there are times when I often feel very, very lazy. For instance, I have a website for my novels but I haven't updated it in an eternity...

i think this so-called laziness is just another way in which
'executive dysfunction' would manifest itself;
and i get the impression that this ed is quite common in ASS

I usually get this way because I feel tired. I also wonder if it has to do with narrow interests since that's supppose to be a trait in AS.

I believe it's an entirely human trait to have too.

Well, I can think of only one reason how AS could possibly result in laziness, and that it when a state that only looks like laziness stems from emotional traumas due to very bad experiences with other people that may have happened due to autistic traits.

But them, this wouldn't be laziness but anxiety - and if not anxiety, then a psychological disorder of sorts, nothing directly connected to the ASD.

I dont think laziness is a trait of autism but we can become lazy because of depression and probably other things. I know right now I am lazy and have no motivation at all. But when I was working I worked harder and faster than anyone I worked with pushing myself to the limit all the time. If everything was good I would be motivated again.

If I have a source of income to work on my various projects with, I will be extremely motivated. Without that, I don't take much pleasure in anything else, and thus can be 'depressed' and 'lazy'.

Hi. It's 10pm on a Sunday evening, (in the UK) and I'm starting out researching for the second issue of my magazine, (a project I do for love and not money). I have to wake up at 5.30 tomorrow to go to work. I will probably do some more reading for my open university course before I go to bed too. I haven't owned a TV since the 90's.

Maybe in some people... I'm the opposite though. I have to work.

While I'm just echoing what has already been said, I do not think that laziness is a trait of AS/autism.

I do think that laziness is a consequence of depression and learned helplessness. And as someone else said, indecision and anxiety can be though of as laziness.

If Aspies are more depressed than the general population, that it is possible that Aspies are "lazier." But it is not because of AS.

With special interests, I think that there are plenty of Aspies who are extremely motivated.

this is the way i think of it

Aspergians have Motivation without Interest issues

and we can't fix it with external stimuli, everything has to be stimulated from within.

does that help anyone?
