I've always wondered what makes snow so very different than ice, and I think I've figured it out at long last. My theory is that snow is to ice what popcorn is to unpopped corn. Somehow way up in the sky the ice pops into a fluffy white cluster rather than dense hard hail stones.

I know I'm wrong, but this does make a good theory, right?

Right-it's not literally accurate-but it's an enlightening & symbolically useful metaphor. Neato.

The notion of expansion, unfurling/unfolding of a compact dense body (be it corn kernel or ice pellet) into material that displays fuller (in both size & detail) expression of variety. Makes sense to me, when I think about it. Enjoy instances of conceptualizing relationships (compare & contrast) between things in uncommon/unconventional ways.

What an inspiration. You know, at one time common logic told ppl that the earth was flat.
