NT Hugging 101 for Aspies

I prefer this to vice grip handshakes! You really should know the person. I would not be comfortable doing this if I did not know the person very well.

Well made, well analyzed, well said. Humourous, too.

Yeah, I want to know what kind of affection is expected between female friends. I think most girls do a lot of hugging and complimenting each other? And yet they somehow make it clear it's just a friendship thing? And what about that "friendly teasing" thing? How do you do that and avoid making it sound genuinely insulting? And how do you respond to those catty comments, the slightly funny yet intentionally insulting ones?

If you know the person, you can answer with something clever AND FUNNY, and well, a little bit insulting but not VERY insulting.
(Very important, many times you'll have to hold your own laughter before telling the complete joke, or you won't be understood).

Another option: disqualify the other person with something like "grow up!", or "(you're) always the same" (but this last one you say it letting out a sigh, not angry or bothered).

Also, you can say something semi-serious like "Hey!, do we now get along like this?!". That is, you are saying that you still have some dignity, and won't answer to that. But you don't say it in very serious way, like semi-jokingly, and definitely NOT laughing, because it's about yourself.

Finally, you can say something FUNNIER about yourself, that is, make a joke, say something exagerate and laugh at yourself, AND, very important, let it slide.

Hope my english is teh understood :)

That's informative. Thank you. I still think it would be fun to see a video demonstration of it.

Thanks greentea....BIG HUG for you! As properly demonstrted, of course. I am female, but I think more instruction of this sort is in order. I learned so much. NOT that I'm going to begin initiating hugs, mind you, but this technique may come in handy if the need does arise and I cannot 'squirm out of it.'

O O X X

Ok, that enough PDA for now. I think I'll just send flowers or something - more expedient.

Yeah, the whole site is fantastic. I have watched a lot of the friendship one's and relationship ones.

Very helpful in actually SHOWING you what the hell is going on in social interaction. I find it hard to separate the "humourous" ones out from the serious ones though. As I suspect a few in the serious category are actually supposed to be humourous.

Everything from "how to look confident" to "how to be cool"

I especially like the self-help stuff about "how to iron a pair of pants' and "how to put together a stylish wardrobe on a budget" videos. A definite gold mine of information on that site.

Kudos to you greentea for bringing it up.
