Well, in the past hour or so I relized Pi Day was tomorrow. I then found out there was a contest at my school for memorized digits of Pi. I decided I aim to win...
I have just learned 101 digits, and wanting to learn at least a hundred more in an hour.

How many digits of the mystical, irrational number to do know, Brain Man?

I've got a project I need to do for my Calc class tomorrow involving pi. I've only memorized about 140-150 digits of pi, but then I've never been in a competition for it. If you are memorizing ~100 digits/hour, you should be fine for this contest.

WOW! I only bothered learning 50. You have to stop SOMEWHERE, and I want to learn about 31000 more words(in 6 languages). 8O BTW I went through most of my life only knowing 6 digits of pi.

16 digits (3.141592652589793) is, for all practical intents and purposes, exact pi. Most calculators only go out to 3.141592654 at the most, and using more than 16 digits doesn't offer any appreciable improvement in the accuracy of calculations.

AS a math major - the idea of memorizing digits of pi puzzles me. I have a deep aversion to approximations, so getting a better one just feels like wading through something very icky. But hey whatever floats your boat.

God do I despise approximations... :eew:

Two and a half in extreme three digits is enough for most calculations My favourite calculator is a slide rule that being analogue had a line for Pi :)

Same here; good ole three point one four one five nine has gotten me along just fine in life; if I need additional precision, additional digits are readily available for lookup; but I don't expect I'll really ever need that additional precision.

I must say, I've never actually celebrated Pi day or anything; rather more just observed; celebrating on the pagan holidays is more my style.

Nevertheless, posted exactly at the start of Pi day, my time zone; happy Pi day, all. Sometimes an overabundance of unnecessary precision can be a smirky plaything.

Good fortune,

I only remember 3.14159, I never really memorized any digits beyond those as I used a calculator for problems like that that required pi.

Happy Pi Day!

From the top of my head:

3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399

I hope I got the last digits right.

The chairperson of our Math Department where I work e-mailed everyone about PiDay. There were a number of responses in regards to this. I never knew PiDay existed.
