Hi i'm geo1992. I Wonder, are there any brain sturucture abnormalities associated with asperger syndrome?
autism brains are missing the protruding part of the temporal lobe, have a raisen like cerebellum, and have a lump on the brain stem. Is there anything wrong with my brain?

I dont know of any brain abnormalities that are significant or concurrent with autism or else an MRI would be used for diagnosis.

There is nothing wrong with your brain. You just have a different style. Thats what my doctor said to me!

It hardly seems scientific, explaining brains like that. I wish I knew your sources for this information.

Reading some research papers online, some doctors say that it's not the size of your brain that matters, but the pathways of the neurons over whatever amount of brain you have.

Autism is not measured by brain, but by behavior, and style of processing information, and about how much it is different from the expectations of society.

It probably doesnt sound scientific. I'll paraphrase what he said though.Hopefully it will sound better.

"When I went to medical school, we were taught that all brains should function exactly the same. That was 30 years ago, and now we know that no two brains are alike! There is nothing wrong with your brain. You just have a different style."

He is a great doctor!

HUH? I heard of some potential differences for autistics, but NONE like this, or described like this!

Protruding part of temporal lobe? Protruding HOW, and from WHERE? Heck, all jut out to some degree. Raisin like cerebellum? The cerebellum of anyone could look like that. Lump on the brainstem? I haven't seen any that were that smooth!

Anyway, Noelle is right. It is the CONNECTIONS that matter.

Wikipedia is not a reliable source of information.

It's fun to read, and it contains some factual information and some good references, but it also contains plenty of errors and statements that are not backed up by solid references. Therefore, anything you read in it is not to be trusted at face value. That applies to images as well.

I read a book by someone named Read, if memory serves. The book was called "Right Hand, Left Hand".

There was a chapter in which he claimed that the position of function centers within the brain can be placed randomly, with the presence of a single or double copy of a hypothetical gene C (for "chance").

I won't go into detail, partly because I don't remember much detail. The important thing is that if two centers are located on different sides of the corpus callosum, there communication will suffer, obviously.

And if they are placed on the same side, they will be able to co-operate a whole lot better.

I'm no expert, so I don't know what to make of this, but I wanted to share it anyway.

i summarized an article kind of on this topic for our front page a while back...

go to WP homepage and click on the "article" section up towards the top... this takes you to a list of older posted articles... the topic was on dec 5 2007 (called something like "faster brain growth").... it's up towards the top of the page.

i hope to start posting more on topics of autism in the science community soon....

school sucks though lol
