Does anyone else out here have recurring problems with their jaw. For about the past three years, the right side of my jaw likes to pop out of place, when that happens, my jaw ends up closing funny and chewing hurts an awful lot. Between all that it gets really sore.

My jaw annoys me that way from time to time. You need to discuss it with your dentist, who can help you determine the cause and deal with it.

First plan is to avoid hard chewing and chew equally on both sides at once.

Also look to stress reduction in your life.

If that doesn't help they can make a mouthpiece that you can wear at night to avoid clenching the jaw during sleep.

That's about all I know.

Scoots, make an appointment with the dentist [they may refer to a specialist at a hospital or not],if it's really bad and are not able to eat, tell them that so they might give a quicker appointment.
If the eating is too much-am recommend getting a few boxes of Complan [or equivilent that can find there] it's the same amount of vitamins etc in one meal,it's liquid [can add the powder to milk or water and has different flavours] and tastes very nice,it would rest the need for chewing for a while.

Am also have jaw problems, and also have trigeminal neuralgia which they tried to blame on TMJ once [theyre both completely different being that full TN is severe/accute in comparison,a nerve disease and nothing to do with bones] am have been told am have a abnormally small jaw, dentists thought it was so unusual they took photos and xrays of it for training student dentists, dont know why it's unusual as humans are supposed to have smaller jaws now aren't they, but it seems are not losing any of the teeth so it overcrowds.

antidepressants work to reduce the jaw pain if it is caused by stress. i am diagnosed with tmj and some anxiety. i can vouch for that. a low dose may be all you need, if jaw pain is your only issue.

I wouldnt say I have problems with my jaw but it doesnt behave normally. I dont get no pain or anything but It feels like it clicks out of place when I open my mouth really wide and sometimes when I am eating something that needs quite a lot of pressure like crusty bread, baguettes my jaw will click on each bite/chew once it has started. Its been commented on because people can hear the clicking but there is nothing bad to me.

I've been told that as well.

I have an uneven jaw line and it often pops in and out of place on both sides...but not at the same time. I have an overbite and have been wearing braces [the type that go in mouths] for 3 years to help fix it.
It hasn't done much so I might have to have an operation to reset my jaw >_<

Yeah, find out from a doctor, preferably one who specializes in these things.

It can be for all kinds of reasons. In my case, I was told the thing in the skull that the jaw is supposed to rest in is too shallow (therefore it can't fully rest in there and pops out a lot), the jaw itself is too small, and I'm hypermobile. For another person it could be something totally different.

When my sister was young she would scream her jaw would lock. She'd of course panic but when she calmed down & relaxed a bit it would unlock. I was a passenger in a car accident back in 89, the gear shift came up & slammed me in the jaw. It's never sat straight since. If I bite into something too big I have problems for about three weeks. Back when my wisdom teeth were coming in my jaw was acting up too. They have surgeries that correct such things, but the specialist said it's a lot of pain over two years. Not to mention my insurance couldn't cover it... I guess not being able to eat at times is considered simply cosmetic in their eyes. It's the pain of surgery that makes me deal with it..

See a doctor to know in your case. Good luck.

Lately my jaw has been hurting for no apparent reason. Today it isn't as bad as a few days ago. My teeth are bad also. I know I have to go to the dentist because of this. I think I have 50000 cavities and need 246 root canals, and 8649 fillings, and 459 pulled teeth. That is how bad it is. I brush my teeth but because of all the stress in the old days (when I was 13 or so and am 25 now) I grinded my teeth and have no enamel left.

I have similar problems, Firebird. My molars are a mess from tooth grinding, and I get jaw and neck spasms.
