This has happened since ninth grade. It drives me nuts. I say something, And in the middle of each sentence, I forget what I wanted to say and then stop. This happens all the time. I want to stop this habit, because I come across as ret*d.(I probably am.) I'm pulling my hair out thinking about it.

Are your sentences very long?

I doubt you're ret*d (by the book definition) so don't be too hard on yourself. I sometimes have the same problem. I have a problem getting the words out. I do sometimes forget what I was going to say but it's usually more that I can't figure out what words I want to use.

It could be some executive dysfunction. I have the same problem.

Because I sometimes (very few times) forget what I wanted to say if I try to make a too long sentence. So I was going to suggest making short sentences. And if this works, then try making longer sentences.

Do you feel like you 'forget' what you had to say before you finish saying it?

Yeah, sometimes. But more often I don't know how to put the words together. It's very frustrating.

I do this, too, frequently. It doesn't help that I also sometimes decide not to say what I was going to say ("they'll object, it's too weird, it's too picky, it's too personal, etc.") and just cover by saying I've forgotten.

You might want to practice a lot.

I have a friend who had trouble saying anything beyond a word or two a lot of the time, and she got a radio and a tape recorder, and practiced saying things that people on the radio said.

The change didn't happen overnight though. She first got good at making speeches, because those were memorized, and after several years she was able to use sentences in everyday conversation.

I don't write perfect grammar. Don't expect me to write a college level grammar.

Lol I do this. People just think I'm a bit vague (I get told regularly I'm one of those weird academic types) as I just trail off towards the end of my sentences sometimes. I think its because it should be obvious what I was trying to say from the first part so why bother finishing. Either that or I get distracted by other stuff.
