Just wanted to know what's the percentage of sensory processing disorders are here.
Would be interested if anyone wants to share their experiences with them, especially if they've picked others or VPD as I don't know anyone else here who also has VPD or suspect that they do. And post the severity of it if you want to.

I am pretty sure I have a central auditory processing disorder to some extent. A person can be talking right to me, and if there is any interferance at all, all I here is wah wah wah...Or if my attention is fixed on soemthing else, and someone says something...I will hear the sounds they make with their mouth, but not the words. It is hellish at meetings and whatnot.....when multiple people are talking...I can hardly catch a phrase of anything....It caused me alot of trouble all through school..though I didn't know I had it.... ...and it is also annoying while watching movies.
i have mild face-blindness...so combine that with my auditory processing issues...and you get um...a person who uh....has a really hard time following movies that are not really straight forward..(or have subtitles)

I have CAPD and I hate it because people assume I'm partially deaf or stupid.

I have been called both...for not understanding what a person is saying even though I am right next to them. It happens less when I say "sorry, could you repeat that" instead of "what?"

I used to have an acquaintance who's voice was always just beneath my range of being able to decipher...and she was a very witty, and intelligent person....but it seemed inevitable that she would say things, and people around me could understand her, but to me, it was like listening to Kenny from Southpark.

I never heard of them before someone related was diagnosed with CAPD; Asperger's was ruled out.

Neither, but I'm sure I'd qualify for visual and auditory as both would come under the autism label as autism is marked by severe deficits in both (in other words, it'd be superfluous to add those labels as they're both the least of my worries).

I think I process a lot of things weirdly.

I have auditory problems, and put the captions on when I watch TV. Since I'm older, I can get away by saying eh? and tilting my head as if I'm partially deaf. Youngsters still don't get the idea half the time. I'm in a fast food place that's noisy, and its 'You want MMm Mmm MMm?' 'Eh?' 'You want Mmmm Mmmm?'

I have a suspected mild APD that an audiologist is looking into. I do know a young man (16) who has a global processing disorder... including auditory and visual input. He gets verbal instructions one or two at a time (including from us, with plenty of reminders), or is given written instructions, and is allowed extra time on exams.

Where I live all kinds of processing disorders are considered a part of ASDs.

I have tactile, auditory dysfunction and hypersensitivity to visual input right now. Hypersensitivity to tastes and textures in the past. That's the worst one I think, even worse than being hurt by touches, because if you're unlucky - you got to go without food. The only thing I most certainly don't have is an olfactory dysfunction. BUT my mother's got this one. I'm glad I don't.

Somewhat unusual, I also have my strengths in auditory and visual/spatial processing. I wish I knew how this is possible.

Which probably translates into having CAPD. I'm not sure about VPD - I never heard of that one before.

my dad used to call this "selective hearing" when i was young, since it would invariably effect the things that i didn't want to hear, like "go clean your room" or "mow the lawn" or "feed the geese" etc etc.

or i can be watching TV, and there can be a loud conversation between a few people right in the room, and i wont hear a word they're saying. my roommates used to tell me they wished they could do that too. they dont know what the downsides are though, really. my most repeated phrase after someone says something to me is probably "What?"

I don't have all that many problems with auditory. Other than forgetting verbal instructions. But visual and tactile are definitely large problems.

I "fit" a few of the APD symptoms but they are almost inconsequential as to be almost useless as diagnostic criteria.

I've been diagnosed with CAPD, hyperacusis, and Irlen's syndrome (which I think is a misnomer for VPD concocted by a company that really really wants to have a monopoly on tinted glasses), as well as Sensory Integration Dysfunction (which I also .

But I think really those, as well as the other ways that my senses seem to be processed oddly, are byproducts of an autistic perceptual setup in general, rather than specifically disordered processing of a specific set of senses, and I don't entirely believe in some of the constructs they've come up with to separate all these things out.

I definitely have auditory weirdnesses, so i voted that , but i also have touch sensory issues, and a sort of visual one which crops up occasionally of transposing, reversing, copy and pasting of text or letters, but it's mild compared to my auditory problems.
