I've bawled from 2 am to 5 am this morning. Needless to say I didn't sleep much and I almost killed myself (again)

I haven't cried in a VERY, VERY, VERY long time! Technically, I haven't cried in perhaps 36 years. Of course, men aren't supposed to cry, and are apparently far less likely than women. I doubt this is an AS trait.

When REAL men cried, they cried with tear that flow like sweat under the eye as stress of depression kick in.

Look at military men.

The not so real men are those that cry too much.

There is no such thing as no crying unless you have a disorder in your brain that doesn't function the tearing process well.

I used to cry so much it got in the way of my functioning...I think it was my "meltdown" as I tended to do it even when I wasn't in the least depressed. I went on Effexor and now I sledom cry but I did when my cat dyed. It hurt so bad I thought someone was ripping an internal organ out of my body....I still miss him and feel like I'm going to "tear up" but don't.

I voted I don't remember because mine wasn't up there. Last time I cried was three years ago when my dad passed away. However I was depressed two weeks ago and felt like crying at times.

I haven't cried since I was little. I tried to make myself cry on a couple of occasions, because I hadn't done it in so long, but I didn't get any more than a little watery.

I cry a lot because I have depressive mood swings. Sometimes nothing is wrong and I feel like crying so I make myself sad and cry.

I was having a really hard time, controlling my emotions, at times, today. I know that I'll make it through the next four weeks, just fine. I've found a place that I can hang out, while my best friend is out of town.

yep, only very occasionally; a teary eye some blue moon

and, might the feeling be there (which it ain't), it doesn't stay and hold on -
it would seem (strongish) emotions only drop by rarely and then only to say hello & au revoir

Aristotle theorized that crying at a drama "cleanses the mind" of suppressed emotions by a process called catharsis: the reduction of distress by releasing the emotions.

Crying may "cleanse the mind" in a much more literal sense than even the catharsis theorists imagine. Other researchers are now examining the contents of emotional tears for substances such as endorphins, ACTH, prolactin and growth hormone, all of which are released by stress. While the research on psychoactive substances in tears is just beginning, there is reason to think that emotional tears may be important in the maintenance of physical health and emotional balance.

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so down. Please don't kill yourself, we would all miss you terribly.

Last time I cried was maybe 5 years ago when our dog who had cancer, died :(
I think it is an AS trait because of the lack of empathy and all.

The other day when I was working out, I got nauseated with anger. Something I hadn't felt in years. I was in a location that I couldn't cry so I held it in and just felt really sick.

I cried Sunday night out of sheer exhaustion from having to deal with people all day. Actually I had a panic attack, so it was more screaming/hyperventilating with crying thrown in for good measure.
