Today our local news radio station announced that Presidents Bush and Putin had just met in the Black Sea, and a very strange image appeared in my mind of them doing just that.

Because the topic is not about the meeting of these two titans, but of the literal interpretation I gave to the news item :D

I think taking things literally is an Aspie feature. It certainly helps me to come out with puns in social situations, taking what people have said and giving it back to them with a twist. Best done with a straight face to get a good response.

I do this all the time. My son told me the other day that his dad, who is like 400 pounds, fell down and had a difficult time getting up. I instantly had a picture in my brain of my ex on his back like a turtle waving his fat little arms and legs in the air. Then I got the picture in my head of him on his big fat tummy with his fat little arms and legs unable to reach the ground and him unable to get up. I know it's not really funny. But it really is.

Then there was the day that my coworker said that a service provider was trying to blow sunshine up her ass. I laughed until I cried because I was picturing the machine that would actually blow sunshine up someone's ass and what the purpose of having such a machine might be.

Yep, too literal. I get it. Me too.

:lmao:

When I read your post, I pictured something similar. I pictured them playing in a tar pit instead of in black water.

I take slang that people use literally on purpose just to hear their reactions. It's hilarious!

For example, whenever my NT step-brother says something is "phat," I say "Well put it on weight watchers." I know what he means, I just like making fun of modern slang because most of it is stupid.

I totally agree, a lot of today's slang is just so idiotic. Most of it doesn't even make sense. Who comes up these stupid sayings anyway? I can't even say some of it as a joke without feeling like my IQ is below 20.

Whenever I hear it, I want to rip my ears off and dig my inner ears out of my head with a spoon.

Speaking of slang, I was growing up in Southern Nevada when the expression "COOOOOL" became popular. I never really understood what it meant, as it was about 120*F outside. :D

Sea-ing is believing topic

Good one, Ed. Yet I have a sneaky suspicion the newswriter's Freudian slip/faux pas is deliberate!

Now that I think about it, the same image had popped into my mind. That's very strange.
