I'm not sure if I should bring it up or see if she just....comes up with it on her own. Ha...most likely I'll be too busy trying to hear HER and not her fan to ask anything but....any thoughts? Input greatly apriciated.

LOL. When I read 'head shrinker', I thought shrunken heads.

If I were you, I would bring it up. :D

Absolutely mention it. Sometimes these things get missed simply because one isn't looking for them. For years AS was (and may still be) frequently misdiagnosed as OCD, ADD or ADHD.

uh hum......,. That's an AS SYMPTOM!! !! !! Maybe you should point such things out. Tell her about the mattress incident! How about the noisy cafeteria? How about the "lack common sense" comment? How about the "Stupid but smart" comment?

BTW Sorry if I seem to know a little too much about you. As we all know, some things seem to just STICK. You ARE a bit like me, etc... BTW I haven't slept between matresses, but you and I are alike in the other ways I listed here.

Mention it. I had a family counselor miss my having it for several months. He even denied it when I suggested it. He was more open-minded when I left a job over the stress five months later.

I got my diagnosis from a clinical psychologist. The only purpose of the visit was to be evaluated for AS, nothing else.

The psychologist I saw obviously didn't notice my difficulty maintaining eye contact, my fixation on the hands of her clock, or my rocking motion (caught myself doing that as well as my usual rapid tapping of both feet), or didn't think it was weird when I told her how I constantly make geometric shapes out of just about everything I see (to include connecting dots on the wall). I mentioned AS. She was surprised to even hear that. She was convinced of ADHD. And when I told her that I rarely socialize well, have poor timing with displaying emotional empathy, and that I tend to avoid social gatherings because I don't understand people's need to constantly interact, she added "social phobia". Whatever. There's a difference between being afraid and disinterested. It just goes to show that some people are dense.
