i am a currently 10th grader in high school.i have been reading since i was two. i never crawled, i just started walking one day. i was potty trained befor 2 and talked at 8 months(also whistled the song my little micky mouse thing played)i wring my hands alot when im excited. i wrung them so much at the game friday(in the band) that i wore a hole in my friends gloves(luckily shes very fond of me and my "weirdness")i wear my hoody nonstop. it is 4:32am where i am right now and i dont plan to remove until i go to bed.my cd plyer must be with me at all times. u'll c me hoodyless b4 u see me musicless. i used to copy ppl rather than answer their questions(which they got me to stop in like a month with constant yelling...i HATE yelling)i have been playing the piano since i was 4. no lessons. if i've heard it i can play it. i am constantly tripping over nothing, falling, running into something or someone, or,more recently, rolling down a big hill, yet, i am very balanced on a skate board. scared to death, but balanced. i rock but can force my self to stop, very hard though.i spin, bounce,,and, ive been told, hum both insessantly and repettivly. i(aparrently) have a fatial tic ive never seen.i have difficulty spelling, doing simple math and geometry, reconizing faces(when they get hair cuts or color)and recalling words.i cant stand bright lightes, flickering lights, loud noises(vacumes suck so bad)or ppl randomly touching me, especally my ears, dont do that(i may scream and fall down).i never seem to get jokes or sarcasm but ppl comment on how funny i am and how im always sarcastic. :? i would write more but i feel this is already too much.please help :(

You're a freaking autie and ought to be proud of it. Tell the parents, and get yourself diagnosed. Diagnosis has its disadvantages, but it can also work to your advantage on some occassions. It's quite lovely that you've been coping so intelligently. Don't mind the crying fits. They're nothing. Wait for them to pass, and move on.

Those are some very classic symptoms of autism. In your case, I'd say the Asperger Syndrome variety, because of your early speech. It seems you have quite a lot of sensory integration craziness going on--the hoodie, the music, all the stimming (repetitive movements)... If you're not autistic, I'll be very surprised. They might diagnose PDD-NOS or "sensory integration dysfunction", but those are both pretty much on the spectrum.

Go get yourself an evaluation--by a specialist, not some random psych who doesn't know autism from the nose on his face--and see if you're on the right track. You might be able to get yourself accomodations in school, like the right to take tests in a quiet place by yourself--when they let me do that, it did wonders for my scores, since I was constantly distracted by things like air conditioners and my fellow classmates' breathing!

Do you have special interests?--that is, one or more subjects you're very fascinated with, and others might say you're "obsessed" with? That's a common Aspie thing... mine are cats, physics, and D&D.

I could read complete sentences by the age of 1 1/2, work a computer at the age of 2, bullied until the age of 12, didn't have friends until Middle School, Always worked with computers and music, and I can think up of an entire symphony in a few hours. Welcome to the world of autism ;) It's not a bad thing by the way :) Everyone else would like to make you think that. I've noticed more and more people either fear the odd variety (because they can't predict what we can do) or love it (many girls love someone who isn't just a muscle head jock).

Whoah, we've really got to get a music project/collaboration going.

I think there is around 10-20 musically minded/driven people on the forums and I think we could do something wonderful together.

Though I tend to need to work alone, maybe we could contribute one track each or something.

That's called stimming and it's common among those with Autism and AS.

Black cat,

if it makes you feel better:

I don't know WHEN I started reading, but am pretty sure it was by 3. I apparantly wasn't an early talker, but I DID talk in complete sentences.

I don't run into people. I never knew a time when I did. I DO avoid them a lot though, so maybe I did.

I rock, but I can stop. With me it is subtle, and I kind of like it.

I don't like the touching, lights, or sounds either. Just yesterday, a fire alarm went off, and I was the ONLY one plugging my ears.

I have some problems with math also. Luckily, I think most others do also. I'm finally trying to get better.

I have problems with some faces sometimes.

As for the jokes and sarcasm? You might as well have been writting about me!

Steve
